Its better than having maybe 2,000 fans (or less) show up for your biggest event of the season.

It isn't like the teams chosen to host are garbage teams. Most are very competitive, if not the best team, in the tournament.

I think it is also hard to judge how different a team may have played if they didn't have the guarantee to the Memorial Cup.

There might be a league mandate to call that tougher after Kyle Beach hit a fan in Red Deer firing a puck in anger last year. Overall, at that point, I think the refs knew the Wheat Kings were getting out of hand and they wanted to keep things under control. That action came right on the heels of Calvert's idiocy. Overall, I think the stripes did a pretty good job of keeping the game from degenerating into a mess, Glennie's cheap shot notwithstanding. Surprising as hell given it was Savage and Thiessen. I spent most of the third period hoping that nobody got hurt, because it was clear at about the 10 minute mark of the second that frustration had gotten better of the Wheat Kings. They weren't playing to win any more, they were just running around going after people.

It was a total blowout last night! Looked like one of the players lost a tooth

It's not so much how they play, it's what management does when they know they have the bye. Once a team is hosting the GM's tend to sell out on future years by stocking up on 19yr olds. These teams are built to win the cup, if they win the playoffs its a bonus.

I think teams will play differently in the play-offs knowing that whether they win or lose they will still go to the Memorial Cup. Teams are much less likely to work as hard or go all out to win games.

Kitchener just blew a 3-0 series lead to Windsor. Nemisz and the Spitfires just won game 7 4-1.

Anyone know when Hitmen tickets will be sold? And when the first two home games are?

I believe they have announced that game 1 is Friday night. Tix should be on sale at ticketmaster. They haven't announced a date for game 2 yet because the Roughnecks also host a home playoff game, likely Saturday afternoon. If they can get the turf rolled up, I could see a late start on Saturday night for game 2.

Americans are up 5-2 late in the third. The Hitmen will face Tri-Cities for the Dub Title.

I'd be very surprised if they put both games on the same day. I suspect game two will be on Monday.

And Hitmen in 7.

My favorite beer guy told me that they had people scheduled for a doubleheader @ the Dome on Saturday...however, given the complaining that Bannister has done in the press that might change.

Given the Hitmen have priority over the Roughnecks, I would suspect that the Flames would look at Bannister and go "Saturday afternoon or Monday evening. Your choice."
