Mitch Wahl lives two minutes from the ocean in Seal Beach, Calif. Ten minutes from the nearest hockey rink.


But the Calgary Flames prospect plans to spend much of his summer in another locale, about 20 minutes down the road.

The gym.


“The guys are bigger here,” Wahl says taking a break from the rigours of his first taste of the professional ranks with the Abbotsford Heat. “They’re stronger. Smarter with the puck.


“You’ve got to be more alert and aware on the ice, that’s for sure.”

Just two weeks into his American Hockey League career, Wahl has an angry gash on the bridge of his nose from a scrum in the rough-and-tumble playoff series against Steve MacIntyre, Rory Fitzpatrick, Mike York and the Rochester Americans.

Great story. I don't know what it is, but I've always been a bit more excited of the potential of Wahl over Nemeiz. Not sure what it is, but this is a great article and sounds like he's got a good head on his shoulders and for a playmaker willing to battle with the big boys, I think that says a lot for his pedigree. I still think he's got potential to be a solid 2-3 centreman.

He has talent. But like a lot of other players that have talent he now has to take it to the next step.

Seems like he is willing to do that.
