Default Playstation 3 External drives

I want to start ripping my dvds onto my PS3 and begin the process of getting rid of all the discs.

I want to buy a 2TB drive that will allow me to use different folders for T.V., movies, etc...

Are there certain types/brands to avoid? Any tips would be helpful.

I'd buy any reputable brand; shouldn't have to worry too much about what HDD to buy.

You have to keep in mind that a PS3 can only read drives formatted FAT32, not NTFS. Some external (WD MyBook) are already formatted FAT32, while others (Seagate, what I currently have), will have to be formatted to FAT32 upon purchase, before your PS3 can read it.

I saw one on sale at Walmart today. 120 GB if I'm not mistaken. Around $100 or so.

What about something like this? I like the idea of constantly backing up your data and future-proofing sotrage needs. I'm wondering if the streaming would be choppy like Tversity.

That's probably an internal drive for PS3 that Wal-Mart sells, which is no different from hard drives you can buy cheaper from Memory Express or online.

I think I bought a 500 GB external for my PS3 for about $70 last year.

I've never used one of those burnin, but they seem interesting. A bit more costly though.

Ouch. For just the HDD alone you should be able to get a TB for about $100.
