So, I watched Avatar and The Hurt Locker back to back last night.

Coming from a huge fan of war style movies I have to say the Academy Award voters are totally out to lunch.

Didn't you just thank T@T for his opinion that the Academy Award voters were wrong in voting for the Hurt Locker over Avatar?

Despite it ripping off a bunch of stuff...and let's be honest everything in Hollywood is a rip off of something else.....I loved the world that was created in Avatar.

We could argue about the lack of "Plot", or the crappy storyline, or the "Dances with Wolves in Space" aspect, or the fact that James Cammeron is a massive Nerd, or the Horrible Acting, or the Horrible casting, or the "over the top" marketing, or the fact that it was nothing more than "eye candy", or the fact that it sucked huge A$$!

...Other than that, I don't know.

This is not arguing. This is trolling based on you repeating the same criticisms of this movie in almost every one of your posts in this thread. Your view was explained sufficiently months ago.

So you hate Avatar? Why do you have to keep telling us this when a lot of us love Avatar? You must hate us too!

So if there's a beautiful girl who is dense and dumb and has a bad attitude and people say that she likes to kill kittens in her spare time. That won't stop me from looking at her. Eye candy rules!

Yeah, Cuz both were not worthy.

"District 9" was head and shoulders above both.......IMHO.

I agree. Avatar and The Hurt Locker both sucked. I thought The Hurt Locker was worse as Avatar was entertaining at the end.

District 9 how ever was a masterpiece and should have won over both.

How is Avatar in blu-ray? I can't imagine the movie without the 3D effects

I want to see it, my experience with 3D in the theatre, or 3D in general is bad. My eyes aren't 20/20, one is lazy and the other is a tad bad. So using them to decipher a pair of 3D glasses is a pain. I want to watch the movie in Blu-Ray as maybe I'll get to see something this time.

To me the 3D effects weren't even that brilliant apart from the beginning where Jake wakes up.

Just for kicks I started reading this thread from page 1.

For some reason I only read the posts that say Avatar is trash and now my blood pressure has certainly spiked.

I generally consider myself somewhat of a movie snob (I loved There Will Be Blood) and hate most big blockbusters like Transformers and such. My dvd collection is somewhere around 300 movies and I generally love cinema.

To hear people say Avatar was bad just blows my mind. Ok maybe some people don't like CGI movies or whatever but Avatar wasn't a bad movie at all. Hell even Roger Ebert loved it.

Just as I feel that people who think Live Free Die Hard or Transformers etc were great movies are total morons (at least in terms of movies) I equally find people who thought Avatar was crap to be intolerable.

Thinking it was mediocre is one thing. Thinking it was bad is just stupid IMO.

I'm probably gonna watch it on bluray tonight and even though it won't be as spectacular as it was in the theatre I see no reason why I won't enjoy it without the 3D.

I personally don't even want to ever watch Avatar again unless it's on a giant screen or a new big screen TV with insane pixel density and resolution so I can sit two feet in front of it and envelope my peripheral vision.

I posted above that Avatar is more like a rollercoaster ride that you have to take to appreciate and enjoy it. Watching it at home on a small TV on your couch and in non-3D is like watching the rollercoaster from the ground.

I guess I need to watch District 9 again as I really don't get the love for it. I just remember it as Apartheid alien style....with some comic relief.

This pretty much sums it up for me.

Flip, I wouldn't call it a bad movie at all. I was entertained, and loved all the eye candy. However I don't think it's a best picture as the story wasn't really new and used a pretty tried and true formula. (as mentioned in my post above this is why I think I need to watch District 9 again as I think it was more of an original story.)

I can see giving it a thumbs up on many fronts but I can't imagine it was a thumbs up for story or dialog...having just read Ebert's review I'm surprised at how much he seems to like it on all fronts.

You know after watching Avatar tonight (and yes it looks excellent) besides the average storyline, I get sick and tired of getting environmental and other messages crammed down my throat.

I guess that combined with James Cameron bleating about the Oilsands soured me a bit about this movie.

If you want to make an entertaining movie thats fine, but if your going to make a statement movie make a statement movie.

Also i did like the hurt locker a lot, but District 9 to me was definitely the movie and story of the year to me.

I hated Avatar. The dialogue was just awful, the characters weren't developed at all and there was zero chemistry between the two leads.

It was a visual achievement but it failed in every other regard. In fact I would have probably walked out of it if not for the fact I was seeing it with someone else.

Awful movie.
