Motorcycles, I am too scared to ride one, so should I just insult the people that do
Ok...so to continue the off topic discussion from the CP motorcycle ride thread, and honor Pylon's request.
Album Cover. Despite what you claim in your first post, you're acting like a dick...but whatever. I had to get that off my chest first.

Seriously, the anti-motorcyclists that have chimed in on this thread are making it worse for themselves. If there are no useful suggestions for the riders, then they take it as just b!tching and complaining, and will ignore it. Trust me, they know that there's a hate on for them, so they'll take it as that unless something constructive comes out of it.
*For the record, I'm 99% sure I won't go on this ride, but I don't see anything wrong with the idea.
Of course I don't have a suggestion. Probably because there is no suggestion. It's a democracy, and you can ride wherever the hell you want.
Cowperson's point was that locals living in those towns are getting sick of the drug store bikers invading their airspace every bloody weekend. I can only imagine how much it would piss me off to. You live out in a small, quiet town and have to listen to that crap starting at 9 am Saturday morning, probably ending at 9 pm Sunday night. It'd be one thing to hear a bike or two once in a while, but they listen to that $hit all weekend long. Of course no one can go out there alone either, it has to be in packs of 20 or more, hence the noise. Oh yeah, and tell me how many ARE'NT crackin' their pipes, and acting like tools during those 36 some odd hours?
Maybe the suggestion is if guys that gotta go on group rides, pack your transformer lunchbox full of goodies, and stay the hell out of those towns so all 20 of ya are'nt pissing off the locals. Either that, or head on over to the greasy truckstop on highway 2 for you're bloody lunch. Is that so tough to figure out? If you want to head to those towns, do it on you're own, or with one other bike.
Aw...poor baby. I'm sorry the "numb nuts" comment offended you. And it's AN_album_cover.
Anyways, I really don't care if people hate motorcycles. There's nothing wrong with that. I hate certain motorcyclists as well. I simply had an issue with people complaining about them in a thread that was specifically created to bring motorcyclists together for a ride.

Yeah, and they haven't done anything to stop them...yet. I get what Cowperson is saying, and he's right. They CAN do something about it, but they haven't yet, so what's the big deal?

Here's my advice, from an actual rider:
- Loud pipes do NOT save lives. Smart riding does. Be considerate with your noise levels.
- Ride by the rules of the road if you wish to share it. Riders have a bad enough rep, that we don't need to be reinforcing the stereotype.
- Chat with the locals every now and then. Maybe they'll see you as more than just a stupid rider.

*Oh, and a sincere thank you for starting this thread. I was going to, since Pylon did not appreciate arguing in the one he started.

Nothing is cooler than a middle-aged man driving down a residential street with a resonator on his bike shaking everyone's house. I have no problems with people driving motorcycles, but resonators should be illegal.
Speaking as someone who drives Crowchild every day, as the weather has gotten nicer, all the s from the U of C riding their crotch rockets have come back out. Weaving in and out of traffic, and being a general nuissance. Sooner or later one of these idiots is going to pay with their life, and they brought it on themselves.

DON'T BUY A HOUSE CLOSE TO A MAIN ROAD Numb Nuts!!!!!
Then you won't notice the people having a nice day cruising with their buddies and enjoying some of the 4 months of beautiful weather we get here.

...
Don't forget cruising 17th Ave and making sure to rev the snot out of it at each patio!
I ride a Gold Wing as mentioned in the other thread. I love riding my motorcycle but hate some riders. I hope the following doesn't offend anyone but if you do these things then maybe you need to be more respectful.
I really don't like Harleys but there are some good riders. The bikes are very expensive, not as well built as the Japanese bikes and many of the riders are jerks with their noisy, I-don't-care-about-others pipes and riding habits. My wife thinks lots of Harley riders are trying to show off their manhood. Why else would you want to buy a bike that costs way more than my Wing and is not as good, then roar around like an idiot.
I don't really like sports bikes but I realize that probably most of the riders here have them 'cause you're a younger crowd. I have no problem with a sports bike being ridden respectfully. However, I've had guys roar past me and do a wheely to impress me; it doesn't. I hate the load roar in the summer when I'm having a back-yard barbecue. I hate how they sometimes roar off from a red light trying to beat me to the next light. I hate when I'm on the highway and these guys roar past me just to show me that they can.
None of this stuff impresses me; I just think you're an idiot if you do these things. If you ride a Harley or a sports bike respectfully, good for you and these comments are not for you. I've gone on rides with riders of both persuasions, although I'll never own either a crotch rocket or a Harley.
A comment about safety: Motorcycles are dangerous. I know folks who have been accident free for decades because they're extremely careful, as am I. The guys most at risk are the sports-bike riders who take big risks. I've seen accidents where these freaks have crashed and destroyed their bikes and seriously injured themselves. One time this guy roared by me on the highway going probably 150 kph, but I came upon him laying on the highway a few minutes later. I stopped to help him and to move his bike off the highway; he was in rough shape.
Again, if you ride one of these bikes and you're respectful of others and of your own safety, these comments are not intended for you. If you're an offender, sorry but you're an idiot. If you ride stupidly (as many riders to, giving us all a bad name), then I hate to say it but you're probably hurt yourself badly one day.
As for the non-riders, we're not all like the riders you love to hate. If you see a guy on a cruiser/Gold Wing/whatever, wave. You can tell pretty quickly if he's the good kind or the bad kind of rider. By the way, Gold Wing riders tend to be older, very careful, very respectful and tend to live to a very old age.
I'm done. I hope these comments make some of you think.
i can recall reading a comment in the paper from a guy who mentioned how "loud pipes save lives" and how he would rev his bike to warn inattentive drivers etc and that made me laugh as all I could think of is that if I am driving my SUV and we have an accident, I think that you are likely goign to lose - regardless of your loud pipes that really do nothing but annoy folk.
if i am in my vehicle and i have the windows closed, the a/c blowing, some music on and the kids are bickering - if you are behid me on my right it is highly unlikely i'll hear you at all - so once again why annoy the ordinary folk would happen to live near a street where you drive by.
despite the fact I live about a 10 to 15 minute wallk off of Deerfoot, I have no trouble hearing vehicles with loud pipes. I think that only 12 yr old boys are truly impressed by that sound.
anways, to the majority of bikers who have not wasted thier money on loud pipes - thanks.......

Yes, someone using a motorcycle as an extension to their inadequate package should definitely be able to affect where people habitate.
I live in a cul-de-sac, way off the main road, in estate area and I can steal hear/feel these idiots driving up the street.
Is it any differant than your typical red neck Albertan that just has to own the Supersized Deisel truck with blue bottle pipes?
Like Money Guy Said above. it doesn't matter if it's a bike, car or truck. If it is being driving respectfully and not owned and driven by an absolute jackass you won't even notice it.

I think that "used" to be true. Harley's are now pretty well built bikes. They are having a hard time shaking the AMF days when they were basically crap but I think they have come a long way since and are every bit as good as Imports. I know a lot of people with both types of bikes who have never had any trouble with either...

I don't think that's true...
A 2010 GoldWing is 29,999.00 (From Honda Canada)
The comparible Harley is 29,339 (From HD Canada)
Unless you buy the Screaming Eagle CVO package for the Harley... They seem pretty close to me...
Also, you have to remember that people buy bikes that are appealing to them. I personally don't think there is a more beautiful bike than the Road King, except maybe an old Indian Cheif.
One thing I consider when buying any vehicle is resale. It's why I bought a Harley, it's why I bought a Lexus. Though I think the Goldwing probably has decent resale too.
I don't dissagree with most of the rest of what you say. Like ANYTHING in life there is good and bad.
I hate guys that put after market pipes on cars and feel the need to punch it going down a residential street ...
I hate when the deisel pickup in front on me spews it's black smoke in the air when it stomps on the gas...
I hate anyone who puts straight pipes on ANY bike...
You're right, there are D-nozzles that ride Harleys. There are D-nozzles that ride Honda's too.
While people have the right to ride/drive whatever they want, from a personal standpoint, I don't understand the desire to ride a motorcycle.
If it's necessary to do a public awareness campaign warning others that it's motorcycle season and to be aware of them, that's kinda a slap in the face that your vehicle is perhaps not the safest ride.
I recall being in a plastic surgeons office. He had a poster in his waiting room that read, "Support your plastic surgeon, ride of motorcycle".
