Also, if you happen to be around the SAIT campus before the end of the day this Friday, stop in to the Heart Building Atrium. They've got the renderings and scale models of the new Trades and Technology Complex on display. It's a $445 million building project that's going to completely transform campus over the next few years (740,000 sqft. of space) -- and will allow an additional 8000 students per year to attend SAIT. And the buildings themselves look to be pretty darn cool, too.

Meanwhile the one at Mt. Royal is going to be a huge concrete block. /sigh
Such a poor campus compared to Sait and U of C.

The new clinic they built at the UA hospital looks pretty ugly. That is a pretty cool parkade. Only need a hockey rink now

The new conservatory building and the upcoming library actually look pretty nice. I think the campus is improving drastically from what it used to be.
MRU doesn't need to put green space on top of theirs as they have more space than SAIT but yeah, I gotta agree, dressing up the sides of it like SAIT has done would look a lot better than just the huge chunk of cement it's going to be.

Where is the new Conservatory building going to be anyway, on one of the old parking lots, or is the extension they are adding to the one building by the parkade?
If there ever wanted to expand drastically they have a ton of space behind where the crappy parking lot is, and I mean a lot of space.

The new SAIT parkade is definitely a win as far as parkades go. One of the best things about it though, is what it's replacing. The old one on 16th Avenue was an eyesore of epic proportions. It has been demolished to make way for a new instructional building as part of the Trades and Technology complex.

Here's a couple images from the Mount Royal Campus Plan (~40MB).
Yellow is existing, red is first phase, or short term, and orange is later phases, or longer term. It's a few years old now so some of the stuff is already built.

The Conservatory is going to be built on the giant open lot #7 and I believe the new library is going to be built on the short term lot #8.

Needless to say, they need to get the parkade done before they go ahead with either the conservatory or the new library.

So they're tearing down all the Student Resident buildings, then replacing them with a couple huge complex's. Nice. Going to take years. Won't even matter as I don't use them, nor will be there.
At least they're expanding.

What's wrong with the current one? I thought it was pretty decent?

The first time I drove down 16th after they ripped down the old one I was so confused. I could tell something looked dramatically different/better about that stretch of 16th but it took me a minute of looking around to figure out what it was. HUGE improvement. A long way to go for 16th still though...

That is a cool parkade, though that soccer field has me thinking of a scene from Clerks. I can see someone kicking their only ball over the fence and into downtown.
And SAIT is still expanding? Christ. They were trearing the entire campus up when I was going there ten years ago.
...Damn, it's been ten years since I went to SAIT. I'm getting old!

Very good idea to maximize space imo.
SAIT is def hamstrung in their current location for space.
