Fine. Doesn't mean they have pursued others. Especially with the blitz of players that were just recently signed. We don't know.

Yup I know - I'm just saying that efforts have been made to sign some guys in the past and they chose to sign elsewhere. Doesn't mean they are giving those routes enough attention, just that some effort is being made.

What do people want, Daryle to hold a press conference every time a free agent almost signs? Naw, that doesn't look pathetic.

I think Darryl Sutter's meal choices and favorite brand of toothpaste would recieve mass criticism these days.
I seen a guy hit his funny bone the other day, and swear I heard him cuss out the Sutter's under his breath.

I don't know how you can look at those two facts and somehow interpret them as negative. Brodie had a great year.

I've seen Brodie play games since he was about 12 years old.... so you're feeling is incorrect.
Again.. if we want to bury our head in the sands and overrate our prospects go nuts. He's not going to be a 'shutdown' guy in the NHL... so him playing that role doesn't do the Flames any good. Crawford isn't an elite prospect (although he's a decent one)... if Brodie can't beat him out for PP time it doesn't bode well for the guy.
If you saw Brodie play as a 17 or 18 year old... you'd expect more from him than you got this year.
Last year at this time he was looking like a complete steal where he was picked.... now he looks fine from where he was picked... but he's no longer looking like a guy who should've been taken 2 or 3 rounds sooner.

OHL update:
Kitchener has shocked Windsor by winning the first 2 games of the series, the first in OT and the second by a 5-2 score. Kitchener is playing very good hockey right now and Windsor has thier hands full. Nemisz had an assist and -1 in game 1 and had an assist in game 2. Game 3 is tonight in Windsor.
Mississauga evened thier series with Barrie on Friday with a 5-2 win. Barrie bounced back last night with a 3-1 win. Brodie scored a goal in the 5-2 loss and was +1, he also added an assist in Saturday's win.
Both Windsor and Barrie are in no way guaranteed to win these series, Kitchener and Mississauga are playing very well.

Windsor wins the fourth game of the series to get back into series now dowm 3games to 1.
Nemisz had a great game with a goal and 2 assists and a plus one. Windsor had a 4-1 lead going into the third and Kitchener came back to tie the score at 4. Windsor again went ahead with Kitchener responding to tie the game at 5. Hall scores to put the Spits in the lead and then Windsor got an empty net goal 7-5 final.
Kitchener never gives up and is making Windsor's life very miserable.
Barrie won the game on Monday to go up 3-1 in thier series. Brodie had an assist in the win.
I have aquestion for Pete Moss: Have you been watching Brodie regularly this year or are you going by what is being said on this board. It was mentioned on this board that Brodie was injured earlier in the year, could this be the reason that you are disappointed in his season?
He may not as you put it be a "shutdown NHL Dman" but he seems to be doing that role for Barrie now. He has improved his defensive game this year, while keeping his offensive game going.

Quality post.
As I mentioned earlier... I've seen Brodie play for years... and saw 10-15 games of his this year. I see a ton of OHL games... if you want to discount my opinion because it isn't glowing towards Brodie... go nuts.
flameester - What I'm trying to say about Brodie isn't that he had a bad year or anything... he just didn't progress as you'd hope from previous years. On the plus side he has been quite good so far in the playoffs.. although Barrie hasn't really been tested much until this round.

Well he was injured.
Players can take a step back when they're injured.

SO you've been watching him since he was 12, last year in your opinion he was a steal but this year he looks crap...basically what you're saying is that you've seen a guy play since he was 12 but you have no idea how to judge a player. Since last year his stats looked great and he looked great to you but this year they don't cuz he's playing 2nd unit PP. So if he was playing first unit PP, he'd be better?
There's a familiarity and chemistry between players, therefore a coach looks at that. Its like White playing with Gio at the end of the year and Boumeester coming on the 2nd unit with Staios. By your logic Boumeester is worse than White since he was beaten by the new guy. Not right.
I appreciate the fact, you've seen him play but you're no scout to judge a player(tell us if you are).

This is funny - people jumping down the throat of the one guy who actually saw Brodie play a lot. Typical CP - way to encourage contributions from people... And I have no clue about Brodie one way or the other btw - just appreciate someone taking the time to post what they've seen.

Thats fine, but I'd take him more seriously if his judgement didn't change year to year for a guy he's been watching for 8 years...

So let me get this straight. Your judgement of a player is not allowed to change over time?

on yearly basis? don't think so...I'm no scout nor do I have any skills that can pick out a player but if you consistently watch a player for 8 years, you get a good indication of what the player will do. Of course there are late bloomers and busts but to say he was looking great last year and this year he didn't progress cuz he was 2nd pair isn't very insightful.

Seems a tad bit overboard to judge him so harshly considering he was injured and traded this year.
Its not unheard of for players to take a slight step back if that happens.

I have no idea where you are getting that I said he was crap or terrible this year.... I said:

He's a fine player... but he didn't have a great year from what I expected from him. Perhaps my expectations were too high. Last year at this time he looked like a guy who would have an outside shot at a World Junior spot this year and seemed poised to be one of the top d-man in the OHL. It didn't happen for him this year and instead of looking like a guy the Flames stole in the draft... the 4th round looks about right for him.
He could turn into a Giordano type player if all goes well but he's going to have to get stronger and show a bit more competitive fire defensively.

Barrie wraps up thier series with Missy with a 4-2 win. Watched it online and it was a strange game. Shots were 3-3 until about the mid point of the first and Barrie starts a barrage outshooting Missy 15-1 and outscoring them 3-0.
Barrie kind of falls asleep in the second and lets Missy get back in with a pair of goals.
Barrie scores early in the third and it was lights out for Missy.
Brodie picked up one assist and was +2.
The finals should be a completely different series than this one with Missy. I think there will be plenty of scoring whether it is Windsor or Kitchener.
If your not getting enough hockey already catch some of the Windsor/Kitchener series it is a dandy.
Nemisz had a beauty goal last night.

Top 5 in scoring for defencemen. 6th ranked for plus/minus for defenceman. Guess my question is what exactly else where you looking for? From some of my readings he's got better defensively as well. Not bashing you at all, but all you've really said is he hasn't had a great year. Why is that? I haven't seen him play at all this season so I'd be interested in hearing why you think that. Don't think you've really answered that so far.
