mix of everything, but probably gearing towards the 25-45 crowd with money.
"* Restaurant and Bar * Social Club * Rooftop Patio *
2 Levels of Restaurant & Bar seating, Private bookings for up to 75 people, Live DJ and dancing, & downtown Canada's LARGEST rooftop patio!"
menu sample: west coast spring rolls loaded with sweet crab and baby shrimp, sake soy spring salmon tenderloin, aaa alberta braised short rib rigatoni, melting pot - aged parmesan and boursin fondue, blueberry ginger creme brulee infused with white chocolate.
if i get more on the menu, i will share.

After checking out those links Troutman, the Barley Mill looks pretty solid. Anyone been there?

Yep, they have a couple options for patio... two different ones on street level and one on the second floor.
But the trouble with Eau Claire is the sun is almost always blocked out by highrises. But for those fleeting moments when the sun peeks through, I doubt there's a better spot in the city.

I have extensive experience of Eua Claire patios and I 100% agree. Joey is right across from Barley Mill and in my opinion is better due to getting a bit more sun, and having significantly better looking staff.

Julio's Barrio's rooftop patio. Just across Memorial Drive, almost consistently in the sun all day.
And bulldogs are awesome

I actually have never minded the food there. Although that is the only place in Calgary that I have never once been able to drive home from so that might of adjusted how good the food actually was. A few of the Crazy Canucks and well there goes my night.

Should help make up for the loss of Ceili's - which by the way isn't for "nothing" it's the second phase of Eighth Avenue Place, which is building to the second floor before the tower goes ahead.

Earls on 4th is good too. Not much for a view, but a cool spot.

Dumb question...you're not allowed to smoke on the patios are you? I love wasting a day away with some friends, cold brews, a pack of smokes/cigars just people watching and bulls**ting.

Well at the moment patio season and watching flames games are exclusive of one another.
As well, I wasn't really being serious about Ceili's, however - at the moment and for the foreseeable future there will be no second phase of Eighth Avenue Place.

I think Joey's Eau Claire patio is the raddest in town.

Right, but Ceili's will still open in the complex at the base of where the 2nd tower will be (the 2 floor "podium") regardless of when the tower itself goes ahead, if ever.

I don't think so anymore. I think for awhile you were allowed to smoke in the bar itself, but not on the outdoor patio, and of course just outside. That was before the no smoking law in any public building law came in a couple years ago. So it created a peculiar situation where you would have to step inside for a smoke.
I don't smoke so I probably haven't kept track of it as much as a smoker probably would.

About WEST
I've tasted all the food: simply amazing.
I've seen the menu for food and drinks: it undercuts Earls by 15% and that's no exaggeration.
Remember when Vickers raised the drink prices in this city. WEST wants to lower it. Which IMO is awesome. If I remember correctly, the most expensive thing on the menu was something like $29. For a high end restaurant in this town, that's incredibly cheap.
The patio is slated to be open in June. 3 bars and it's own kitchen. I was on it the other day and the thing is massive. They do plan for overhead heating and misters (i think), so that should help out on the hot downtown days and cool shady nights.
Yes, the projector thing is true. It'll be huge, cause the wall they are planning to us is massive. You should be able to see it from Stephen Ave.
I really can't wait to start there (this Saturday).

Hmmm, not so sure about that. Don't think they had an exclusive first right of refusal for space in the new development (you could be right, but I doubt it and will look into it). Ceili's isn't even owned by the same group as it was owned by previously.

This place sounds friggin' awesome, but the name (and how it's spelled) reminds me of that Family Guy episode where Brian and Stewie start a bar called pLace.

Some good ones mentioned so far. One I haven't seen so far is Loco Lou's. I find it can be hit and miss, but when it's a busy night, it can be pretty good.
