Default Anyone buying Avatar on DVD?

One of the best, and my favorite movie of all time will be out on DVD soon.

Anyone planning on buying it?

I watched it in theatres at IMAX and it was great. Watched it a second time on dvd and it was even better. 3-D was kind of overrated IMO. The reason the movie was so good for me was because of the storyline. Even without the glasses on my T.V it still looked 3-D minus the scenes where it seemed the flowers were a couple feet infront of you.

I'm looking forward to buying a better quality Avatar DVD. Anyone else? Maybe it will be the highest selling DVD too.

I'll be getting it on Blu-Ray. For $6 more than the DVD you get the combo pack that includes both DVD and Blu-Ray; so even if you haven't bought a Blu-Ray player yet it makes sense to start on your collection now.

I'll be getting the Blu-ray, finally I'll get to watch it without the STUPID 3D effects.

It is far from the best movie of all time, and it WON'T sell the most dvd's all time.

I finally saw it last night at the theatre - and I gotta say I hated it. It is a visual achievement but the rest of it was garbage. The story was terrible, the characters were not developed at all, and the dialogue was terrible.

I get that it is just supposed to be a mindless action flick but that's no excuse. Films like Die-Hard, T2, Aliens, etc demonstrate that you can have action movies that also have a story and real characters.

Ugh...just an awful movie.

Definitely buying the Blu Ray on Tuesday. Pretty pumped to watch it again. Haven't seen it since opening day in December.

Thnking of owning the BluRay... but kinda in the same boat as Jiri. I didn't love it, and I'm trying to buy BluRays of movies I can watch over and over again (300, Fight Club, Eternal Sunshine, etc).

And then there's the whole 'It was made for 3D' arguement. It's going to come out in a 3D format sooner or later, and I'll probably have a 3D TV in 5 years. So, does it make sense to buy it now?

I don't think I'll be one of the firsts, but I may rent it/buy it previously viewed.

my thoughts aren't as extreme as yours, but in general I agree. A good popcorn flick, best to see in the theatre for the 3D, but zero rewatchability.

I have a feeling that if I watch Avatar again on my crappy 24" crt TV that I will be very bored with the movie. I liked it in the theatre but I'm prepared to be uninspired.

The ONLY reason to see this movie was the 3D. It was very impressive to watch, even if it was about 40 minutes too long. The story and everything else about it was weak. It was worth seeing just to experience the 3D, and because it is definitely a technological accomplishment, but it's definitely not anything I would want to watch over and over again. If it wasn't for the 3D, (which the DVD/Blu-ray obviously won't have) I would have hated it.

I won't ban you if you admit James Cameron is a hack.

lol Playboy is actually good for the articles.

I must say I Don't watch many movies and usually dont enjoy these types of movies. I like the old movies like the Home Alone series or a movie like the original dumb and dumber. This movie was pretty good IMO and 1,999,999,985 dollars agrees with me. (minus Jiri's 15 dollars)

Just sad to see all the old style movies dissapearing where hardly any visual effects were needed.

$2B don't agree with you. Mindless fruit cakes watching this movie 10 times agree with you. This is THE most over-rated movie of all time.

The money the movie brought in doesn't mean it was a great movie. Most people saw it because of the CGI and the 3D hype. Had it not been in 3D I wouldn't have gone to watch it in the theatre. It was an impressive technological movie but the storyline is Dances with Wolves.
