Is there something afoot with established posters getting rid of their avatars?

I've noticed this as well and maybe they are just bored of them and don't have a replacement.

edit: looking at the member list by post count it seems out of the top ~30 posters only 4 don't have an avatar.

I hope I didn't inadvertently contribute to a trend. I got rid of mine a couple weeks ago purely for the hell of it. Seems to me that most of the older posters have avatars.

I dumped mine for a bit before the Olympics, then brought back the Cat o' Dewm... before switching to my current one, Golden Iggy Part 2.

So about 13% of the top thirty being minimalist. I wonder what the percentages are out of the top 100? I was thinking that maybe they were gaining faster access, or just plain old access during the heavy traffic times.
