can we plant some false intelligence that the Vatican is hiding WMD's? all those soldiers coming out of Iraq in the next few years are gonna need someone new to invade
seriously though, i don't know how anyone can take the catholic church seriously. the Vatican itself goes against pretty much everything Jesus was said to have stood for. there is no higher form of hypocrisy than hearing the pope talk about helping the poor from his golden palace

Whats hilarious is the Vatican has spent millions of dollars on their new ad campaign to get people back to the church, I'm sure thats money well spent during these scandals.
With their attitudes towards gay rights and their stance on birth protection they will continue to lose plenty of young people from their church, no matter how much money they throw into fancy ad campaigns.

Just young people? The Church will start bleeding people of all stripes pretty quick.
I mean Pope John Paul was so like-able if it wasnt for his church's archaic values and all that I could really of liked the guy. Pope Rat is so offensive in his comments on this child rape issue and his speeches that seem to be pushing the church back another 100years in its thinking.
This weeks stories on the ongoing scandal, including some outrageous claims that its homosexuality's fault and that the homosexual children seduced the priests
VATICAN CITY – The Vatican heatedly defended Pope Benedict XVI on Tuesday, claiming accusations that he helped cover up the actions of pedophile priests are part of an anti-Catholic "hate" campaign targeting the pope for his opposition to abortion and same-sex marriage.
Vatican Radio broadcast comments by two senior cardinals explaining "the motive for these attacks" on the pope and the Vatican newspaper chipped in with spirited comments from another top cardinal.
"The pope defends life and the family, based on marriage between a man and a woman, in a world in which powerful lobbies would like to impose a completely different" agenda, Spanish Cardinal Julian Herranz, head of the disciplinary commission for Holy See officials, said on the radio.
Bishop of Tenerife blames child abuse on the children
Quote:
Bernando Álvarez said that there are 13 year olds who are wanting to be abused, and 'if you are careless they will provoke you'
There is outrage in parts of Spanish society following declarations made over Christmas from the Bishop of Tenerife, Bernardo Álvarez.
Busted, AP press releases letter of future Pope stalling defrocking of child rapist:
Quote:
Most Excellent Bishop
Having received your letter of September 13 of this year, regarding the matter of the removal from all priestly burdens pertaining to Rev Stephen Miller Kiesle in your diocese, it is my duty to share with you the following:
This court, although it regards the arguments presented in favour of removal in this case to be of grave significance, nevertheless deems it necessary to consider the good of the Universal Church together with that of the petitioner, and it is also unable to make light of the detriment that granting the dispensation can provoke with the community of Christ's faithful, particularly regarding the young age of the petitioner.
It is necessary for this Congregation to submit incidents of this sort to very careful consideration, which necessitates a longer period of time.
In the meantime your Excellency must not fail to provide the petitioner with as much paternal care as possible and in addition to explain to same the rationale of this court, which is accustomed to proceed keeping the common good especially before its eyes.
Let me take this occasion to convey sentiments of the highest regard always to you.
Your most Reverend Excellency
Joseph Cardinal Ratzinger
Worries about Calif. priest came early in career
Quote:
OAKLAND, Calif. – Even in his seminary days in the early 1970s, there were questions about California priest Stephen Kiesle: Colleagues said he had trouble relating to adults, lacked spirituality and didn't seem committed to anything but youth ministry.
Those colleagues, who helped make the case to the Vatican in 1981 seeking to let him leave the priesthood, said they were concerned before Kiesle was ordained, and more so after revelations Kiesle had molested children in his parish.
"He was not grown up. He spent more time with kids than with people his own age. You get suspicious of that. There's something wrong there," said John Cummins, former bishop in the Diocese of Oakland, now retired.
Still, future Pope Benedict XVI resisted pleas from the diocese to act on the case, according to a 1985 letter in Latin obtained by The Associated Press that bore his signature as then-Cardinal Joseph Ratzinger.
Dawkins and Christopher Hitchens, the atheist author, have asked human rights lawyers to produce a case for charging Pope Benedict XVI over his alleged cover-up of sexual abuse in the Catholic church.
The pair believe they can exploit the same legal principle used to arrest Augusto Pinochet, the late Chilean dictator, when he visited Britain in 1998.
Benedict will be in Britain between September 16 and 19, visiting London, Glasgow and Coventry, where he will beatify Cardinal John Henry Newman, the 19th-century theologian.
Dawkins and Hitchens believe the Pope would be unable to claim diplomatic immunity from arrest because, although his tour is categorised as a state visit, he is not the head of a state recognised by the United Nations.
Guess who's opposing a law that would remove the limitations of time with respect to sex abuse cases?
I don't necessarily think that's a good idea, there comes a point when memories and possible evidence are so far removed that I don't know if it's worth even trying for a trial, but the optics of them opposing this just looks bad.

Arresting the pope would be awesome, but I doubt it would happen for political reasons. Not worth pissing off the Catholics.
Yup. let's stand by and let them mandate child rape.
Dude, the Muslims are already pissed off, might as well add another to the group.
(Yes I know this whole entry is a little ignorant, but this is a very touchy subject, and really I wonder why it's taken so long for people to wake up to it in a real manner)
Far as I'm concerned the Catholic people should be the really pissed off ones.
The rest of us can't really do much about it.
My Parents still consider themselves catholics even though as a family we walked away from the church.
The concept of the abuse of children has repulsed and upset my parents beyond all measure. With the rumors and stories that the current pope may have helped cover up or at the very least ignored the problem has moved my mom to tears.
When Michael Coren wrote a recent column blaming the media for the problem and not the pope my old man wrote him an email that would have made the devil himself flinch.
While my parents still have the belief in god, and still follow a lot of the prayer rituals, they are pretty much officially done with organized religion of every type.

Hey, I'd gladly see him arrested. "Not worth pissing off the Catholics" is the rationale for why I don't think it will happen. That doesn't mean I agree with it.
