How does one get into photography though? I'm sort of interested in it. Basically all I would want to do would be take a few cool photos that I deem cool enough to frame and post on my walls. Perhaps some good enough to pass off as gifts to family members (im cheap).
What should I do to get into this? What kind of gear is required? currently the only camera that I own (and have ever owned) is the one on my iphone.

Go out there with a camera and just photograph whatever you find interesting. Always bring the camera with you. An iphone is great for quick things but not a good tool for making prints you want to display with (unless the focus is using a smartphone camera, but that's a different topic altogether).

I voted Jeff because he's the only one of the 5 who took a different approach and actually said something. The others either came across as "so, um...like, yeah, I like, wanna do photography, and..like...stuff? lol <smiley face>" or need to win a scholarship for an English course.

Most importantly I like his work. I aspire to have that type of a photographic eye. Most of the shots I see in the portfolio put a different perspective on many of the everyday things or standard shots I've seen before.
