Too soon.
(Also, Polish jokes were invented by the Nazis as a way to humiliate them after ravaging their country... good job keeping the tradition alive.)

So you basically call me a Nazi, but I'm the one who's being inappropriate? There's nothing wrong with a little tongue-in-cheek, even in light of a tragedy. I'm amazed at how sensitive some get over something that they wouldn't even know about if CNN wasn't around.

It's an interesting scenario for sure. I can't quite decide if it would shutdown the government or not. Would they consider those seats vacant and just form government based on whatever party had the most seats filled? Obviously elections would be held, but it would be a cluster-frak in the meantime.
Although, it suspect it would hurt Canada more if a Provincial Gov't was decimated.

Its SOP that the President and Vice, or PM and Deputy PM NEVER travel together for exactly this reason. To prevent a power vaccuum in case of something like this.
Hell, the company I work for has specific policies stating that the CEO and the Chairman of the Board must never travel together for the same reasons.

What if the CEO is the Chairman??

Isn't the normal procedure to NOT land in thick fog? I can't see why they would land the plane if there was so much danger of a crash like this.

Its funny, it sounds like the plane mushed out short of the runway, maybe a hydraulic control failure.
Terrorist attack or not, Poland's government has been devastated.
If I was conspiracy based, I'd take note that it wasn't just the president, it was the head of their military, their intelligence services, a high ranking member of their foreign affairs department, and the head of their national bank. Those are the top governmental portfolios.

I agree...this is how wars get started.

We don't need a plane crash to shut down the government. Seems to shut down quite well all by itself.

Thats a large blow for the polish government, furthermore their country. Not to take away from the tragedy, but it seems the polish prime minister handled the day to day activities of the country even when the president was active, at least they have someone who is qualified/experienced in office
As stated, the timing is pretty unreal, considering they were going to pay homage to a previous massacre.

For Tower, Mikey and the rest of the tin foil brigade, the Polish PM (Tusk) was a political rival of the Polish President, and was looking for ways to circumvent him......

Had an idea!

Funny story.
Couple years ago about 20 Hutterite preachers flew down south on a meeting of some kind. When they came back their lawyer blew his top. Said it was absolutely ridiculous that the Presidents of 20 companies flew somewhere together on the same plane.
I'd imagine its pretty standard for most companies to operate that way.

Does seem like something you would read out of a book. Sure hope this was 100% an accident. I always wondered about stuff like this, sports teams travel around together all the time too.
Thoughts and prayers go out.

I'm not one of them myself, but I live in the largest Polish community outside of Poland (Greenpoint, Brooklyn). Curious to see how the community reacts to this....

Another thing to keep in mind is that I believe Poland is actually considered to be the 4th largest economy in the EU now. This could have effect beyond Poland's borders depending on how things get sorted out. It's the sort the some anti-EU people might like to take advantage of.

It's very normal these days if the aircraft is equipped with an ILS, the TU-154 is an older plane though and may not have re-fitted with this system.
