Wisconsin: Teach sex-ed, get arrested
http://network.nationalpost.com/NP/b...d-classes.aspx
Quote:
A Wisconsin district attorney is threatening to prosecute teachers if they teach a new sex education curriculum.
Juneau County District Attorney Scott Southworth sent a letter on March 24 to teachers in five districts telling them they could be arrested, charged and tried for teaching students how to use condoms.
|
Quote:
Mr. Southworth, a Republican, went on to say that the law encourages child sexual assault by promoting sex to minors, which is illegal in Wisconsin. That could expose teachers to charges.

Unless the new curriculum requires the students to bend over and lube up, I dont see the problem.
Although, one would imagine that the school board that introduced the new curriculum would maybe have determined its legality before implementing it, I mean, its not really the teachers who get to make that call, they do their jobs and teach what they're supposed to right?

I still remember the conversation I had with a friend that teaches in the catholic system in calgary. A student put in a question to the "question box" on the proper usage of a condom and all she was allowed to respond with was "according to the catholic church the best form of protection is abstinence". That scares the crap out of me.

As long as he wasn't dropping his pants and rolling a condom over his semi errect junk while leering at the female students, this is a stupid concept.
If I was that teacher I'd be willing to go to jail to make a point, but I'd be scared that the angry convict was never taught how to use a condom.

wow... 1954 called they want their "logic" back.
They'll probably change their tune when teen pregnancy sky rockets through the roof.

Wow, for being the most powerful nation in the world, some parts of the U.S. are still pretty backwatered.

You can say the same about any country in the world.

Condom use doesn't have a huge impact on teen pregnancy. Liberalization of abortion does. Even with the most strenuous sex education, it's very hard to get condom usage rates above 50%.
Simply put, people don't like wrapping their genitals in pieces of plastic. It doesn't feel as good, it takes time. The abstinence people aren't so far gone as you might think when they emphasize monogamous relationships over simply not having sex. The most successful way to avoid disease and pregnancy is to delay sexual contact until you are in a stable relationship.

Very true, but you would assume that someone who is a District Attorney would have recognized the ridiculousness of his position.
What is the slogan? Banning sex-ed doesn't reduce teenage sex, it reduces safe teenage sex.

Not to this extent. When a large portion of elected officials fail to use reason in writing and enforcing regulation and laws, your country is backwards.

This statement has no basis in fact. It's ideological.

As a professor emeritus from Backseat Tech, I disapprove.
As a professor emeritus in Mixology and Street Pharmacology at same, I find some of his other puritanical crusades distasteful as well.
I'd like to offer an olive branch to all politically correct puritans. Don't try to make me live as an anal retentive, sperm-blocked, right-wing conservative Christian, and I won't try to make them blow a joint, drink tequila or practice safe sex.

Haha, what? It's not ideological. When you have the DA saying that teaching contraception is promoting sexual assault between minors, that is completely unreasonable. It's not an unpopular view either. When you have over 30% of elected officials refuting global warming, that is unreasonable.

Strange... when I went to Catholic School they talked about condoms no problem, every year in sex-ed class. Of course, I went in the late 80's/early 90's... so maybe that's more recent.

How do you figure that? simply on the way it "feels". Going through sex ed we were always taught about using condoms for more than just avoiding pregnancy. The thought of a kid at 16,17 or whatever was enough to wrap the tools up. I have nothing against monogamous relation ships but people have to be living in the dsrk to think everyone wat monogamy
I just don't see how removing the education of condoms helps the situation. I agree abortion doesn't help and I have no idea where you got 50% from but removing the education of condoms would make that number go to 20% or less using a rubber, if that.

I think even 20% is pretty high. I remember reading about the impact of a condom education intensive program in Kenya and the best they managed was about 27%.
I know not everyone wants monogamy. The consequences is part of the risk, in my opinion. OF course condom use should be taught, but people act as if it is the nirvana of sexual education. It's not.

It's a man's obligation to stick his boneration in a woman's separation. This sort of penetration will increase the population of the younger generation.

You're referencing a completely different thing when you point to a place like Kenya though. The resistance to condom usage there is related to things that simply aren't present in North America.

So close...
I thanked anyways.
I think the US is just trying to figure out new ways to increase its population while decreasing intelligence. This way enrollment in the forces goes up, and everyone knows their economy doesn't work unless they're at war with, someone...
