Flames OHL Prospects

Greg Nemisz had a very good regular season but missed some games near the end due to an injury.
stats: 51games 34goals 36assists +22.
He may not have done what everyone expected from him at the World Juniors but he is a very good 2 way player with good hands.
He has 2 assists in 3 games in the playoffs since returning from the nasty cut on his thigh.

TJ Brodie just slightly improved his points total from last year but dramatically improved his +/-. He has improved his defensive side of the game by the look of his stats.
stats: 65 games 7goals 49assists +33
He has 6 assists in 7 games so far in the playoffs.


Windsor is really picking up thier game and Barrie is rolling through so far as well. If these 2 teams meet it will be very interesting in the OHL finals.

Neimsz scored late in the third period of game 4 yesterday to push the game to overtime where the Spits eliminated the Whalers.

Brodie big +/- jump is more because he got traded to the top team in the league more than anything else. His point total was actually disappointing after getting moved... he ended up getting bumped off the top PP unit and didn't get a ton of time on the PP. All in all I wouldn't call it a great year for Brodie sadly.

So hwo isnt a great year? He takes a lessor role on a bigger team and still puts up top numbers....

You don't find too many high end NHL defensemen who weren't top pair guys on their junior teams at 19. He's got upside... but he's not in a shut down pair or getting much PP time in junior...

What the hell are you talking about. He was doing great before Pietrangelo got traded there. Then he got bumped down the depth chart. The bump and drop in production also coincided with an injury that took him out for several games. Once he got back into the groove of things he started producing quite well.
He is also out producing almost every d draft pick in his draft year and some of the higher ranked upcoming prospects. The kid was drafted in the 4th round. He is as close to a real stud Dman the flames have had in their system since Phaneuf (different type of player though, more of a Bouwmeester type Dman).

I just get the feeling that you are writing these things from the perspective of one who only gazes at the stat sheet. Brodie and Dalton Prout are Barrie's 'shutdown' tandem. Pietrangelo and Crawford get first PP time. Thus, Brodie makes a huge defensive contribution to the best team in the league, while surpassing previous point totals despite significant reductions in PP icetime. I don't know how you can look at those two facts and somehow interpret them as negative. Brodie had a great year.

Did a little checking on the OHL site and found theses stats for Brodie.

Saginaw--19 games 4g 19a--23 pts------- +15
Barrie-----46games 3g 30a--33pts--------+18

Playoffs---8games 0g 7a--7pts-------------+8

So it looks to me like your theory of racking up points and improved +/- is not quite right, when in reality he was having a better year in Saginaw than after the trade to Barrie.

Barrie wins the first game of the Eastern finals 3-0.

Barrie looked a little rusty but Missy looked tired from thier previous series with Ottawa.

Brodie had another good game 1 assist and a +2.

The Flames should seriously be looking at Bryan Cameron. This kid is a pure scorer. Suprised no one has signed him yet.

Led OHL in goals in the regular season had 53goals and 25 assists.

Playoffs 9 games 8goals 5assists.

He has really picked up his game defensively as well.

This is the one thing I think Sutter is lacking in. Trying out unsigned prospects and College players. Toronto is cleaning up with high reward free agent signings.

Agreed. There seems to be tons of NCAA signings that the Flames seem to be not involved in.

That said, it was also Sutter that went and signed an undrafted Mark Giordano fron junior.

How do you know the Flames aren't involved?

Players will go where they think there is the best opportunity to play. If I was an unsigned free agent prospect, i'd rather go to Toronto the past couple of years with their serious lack of any depth on the forward ranks.

I don't know. But since we don't sign any, I can also assume that maybe we're just not pursuing them. My suggestion is just as valid as yours.

They have indeed tried to sign some in the past.
