I wouldn't say I'm a thanks-ist, but if a post has been thanked by a few people, I think you can't help but read it. I like the Thanks button, as instead of quoting some big picture or long post just to say "Haha" or "so true!", you just throw out a Thanks. I'm sure it's helped keep threads cleaner.

It's funny, because when it was first introduced I thoght it was so gay, I didn't even get the point of having it. But now I'm so used to it that when I go to another board I'm a member on, it throws me off without a Thanks button. It just seems like so much work to quote a long message just to write "Ya!!" now. I didn't think it was possible for the internet to make me any lazier than it already had, but here we are.

I post only to get thanks. Isn't that the only purpose of CP?

I use the Thanks for Thanking, Agreeing, That's Really Funny and Mocking. It's the best tool on the internet by far.

Well this made me feel like more of a loser than I already thought.

Or Bingo or Jiri.

List of the leaders as of October '09.

http://forum.calgarypuck.com/showpos...&postcount=182

Edit: It might be HOOT. He's got like 5000+ thanks.

Edit 2: And I probably dropped out of the top 50 because I wasn't on CP for almost 2 months while I was on vacation. Dang.

Wow, that's pretty good. I have 3581 thanks in 8936 posts. I feel that this stat doesn't represent just how awesome my posts are, as it was only recently implimented.

If the thanks feature was around since the day I joined, I feel it would be closer to 8000 thanks in 8936 posts.

Hmmm, I feel I'm better than 23rd, so I'll bold all the posters that I would omit for various reasons, which would put me at 13th, which is more reasonable.

troutman 2868
HOOT 2797
HalifaxDrunk 2781 - Because he gets his through his hard work on GDT's
JiriHrdina 2766 - mostly just brown-nosing posters
CaptainCrunch 2712
Bingo 2678 - brown-nosing
Dion 2610 - doesn't post anymore
Machiavelli 2579
Reggie Dunlop 2359 - goes for the cheap laugh, easy thanks
Resolute 14 2098
4X4 2091
Locke 2018
fotze 2000
HPLovecraft 1948
AC 1938 - again, gets his through hard work, rather than being funny
MrMastodonFarm 1608
Hemi-Cuda 1555 - Has a monopoly on all the perma-depressed "I hate the Flames" posters
photon 1448 - brown-nosing
MelBridgeman 1354
transplant99 1341
FanIn80 1282 - Mac fanboy, probably just pm's all the mac lovers to give him thanks
sureLoss 1256 - breaks stories and stuff, that's not funny
flameswin 1247

Don't forget that list is 6 months old. HOOT is now at over 5k and he was at about 2700 on that list.

If you've had a good 6 months, maybe you moved up without having to disqualify people for various reasons...

Yeah, i've had some really good posts in the last 6 months. Off the top of my head I can think of 4 posts in the last month that have got over 15 thanks.

EDIT: I've gone from 1247 to 3581. So it wouldn't surprise me if I've passed some of those clowns.

I think the best indicator would be Thanks per post since the inception of the Thanks system.

I think that might be kind of hard to figure out though. I've only gone from 850ish to 1400 or so in the last 6 months. Although I was gone for almost 2 months.

I think people enjoy being thanked for their hard work, it's like getting a dollar for a good post, but not really getting the dollar, or actually working hard.

When was the Thanks feature put into place? I know it won't give you an exact number but you could take your posts/per day and just pro-rate your posts that way.

I can't believe I have doubled my Thanks from six months ago, I don't know where or why I get them but I seem to have a lot. I guess that's what you get for being a post whore and not having much of a life anymore.

It sure didn't help the fact that I'm not a very good swimmer and was kind of afraid of water/drowning before...

So did they just make you listen to NIN nails till you cried then? I mean NIN is pretty much torture material.
