Default Should I be watching...?

Dexter or True Blood? I have heard good things from both.

Any other shows I should be watching?

If you meant to say House or Chuck, then yes.

Both of them.

Dexter.

I'll admit I've only watched a little bit of True Blood and heard pretty good things about it from others but Dexter is hands down the best show on TV right now IMO.

I guess it depends on whether or not you are a fan of the whole vampire thing. True Blood, from what I understand, is pretty out there in terms of plotlines and such too. Lots of sex, blood and the supernatural.

Not that Dexter is the most accurate show in history or anything but it is at least somewhat based in reality.

I have to say Dexter is really one of the better series I have watched of late, it does a tremendous job at showing the dynamic of a serial killer who has a family and a seeminly normal life, its a smart series and the plots twists are great.

I fully endorse Dexter

My question wasn't one or the other, my question was should I be watching them?

I'll edit my post.

Oh. If it isn't an either/or question then yes I'd recommend both. You will love Dexter. Frankly I don't see why you wouldn't.

True Blood, if that kind of show is your thing, won't disappoint either. I've watched a few episodes but didn't get instantly hooked. Like I said in my other post I've heard a lot of good things about it though.

True Blood is on now and it is a fairly weird show. I'll go "buy" them now.

Breaking Bad if you haven't seen it. Best show on TV hands down.

I only watched the first 2 and have PVRd the rest and plan on watching all of them when it is over but no it is nothing like Rome (at least the first 2 weren't).

Well, ok it is at least a little like Rome. But think of it as Rome meets 300. Lots of slow mo, lots of gore, lots of fighting, lots of extremely stylized gore and blood spraying everywhere.

I've heard that the last few have been much more story oriented though.

YES! Rome is one of my favorite shows of all time. It is so unfortunate it didn't run the whole 5 seasons like it was supposed to but it was cut to only 2 seasons because of budget problems.

It should be noted though, that it didn't just get canceled. The writers knew in advance that season 2 would be the last and as such the story just advances much more quickly and skips ahead in time about 5-10 years.

One of the best shows of all time. Not perfectly accurate in its history but one of the best representations of ancient Roman life ever made.

If it helps your decision my favorite dramas of all time are: (in no particular order)

Sopranos
Six Feet Under
Rome
Dexter
BoB

If they live up to their billing Spartacus and Pacific will probably make it onto the list. I plan on watching both in the summer when they are over and I can watch them all in a row.

Excellent. I loved 300!

I'll go "buy" Rome too. I only saw a few ep's.

If you like 300 you'll probably like the first 2 episodes for sure. As I mentioned I heard the political aspect is focused on more in the later episodes (I think tomorrow is like ep. 9/11) but from what I understand there is still plenty of action.

Current Shows that I make a point of watchin every week:

Dexter......Not the perfect show that plenty of people here think, but still very, very strong drama. Michael C Hall is probably my favorite actor right now. I hope he makes the jump to movies soon. He would be the perfect Riddler if they did a new Batman movie.

True Blood....loved the first season, the second season got weird and silly, but they do such a god job of leaving each episode on a cliffhanger, it's almost impossible for me not to tune in next week

Mad Men.....easily my favorite show on TV right now. I wanna be Don Draper. Enough said.

Nurse Jackie........This show is ALL Edie Falco. She's amazing in this funny and touching drama.

Survivor/Big Brother/Amazing Race.......My reality TV guilty pleasures. Survivor probably my fav. BB a close second. Ask me in the summertime, and I probably like BB more.

Entourage.......I dont get the hate for this show these days. I still think it kicks ass, but I'm in the minority it seems. I just don't get the people that used to like it but don't like it anymore. Has it changed THAT much?? Not in my mind. The guys are growing up, so is the show. I hope this show never ends.

Shows that have been completed that I own and would recommend to anyone

The Sopranos.....changed the way we watch TV. A pioneer series in certain respects.

Six Feet Under.....maybe the most perfect ending to a series....EVER. It's almost worth watching all 5 season JUST to see how it ends. Amazing and some of the best characters ever written.

The Wire.....all other police dramas dont even come close. Probably the greatest show ever made. It's too bad some people couldn't use their brains and respect this show more. CSI, Criminal Minds, Cold Case etc are a disgrace compared to this fine show.

The Shield.....didn't have the realism as the Wire, but it was very addicting and had some gut wrenching moments along with a fantastic series finale. I miss the Shield so much

The L Word....don't laugh people, it got silly in the final 2 seasons, but the first 4 was great television

Deadwood.....Awesome western story....it's just so sad they never finished the show.
