I think they're trying to set the rotation up to alternate righty's and lefty's as much as they can, and to make sure that at least one of Marcum or Romero is getting a start in any 3 game series.

Such a disgrace that Snider is hitting 8th.

The TSN guys had a pretty funny joke about them releasing the roster on April fools saying the roster was a joke but it actually wasn't a April fools joke.

Still excited about the season. I love this time of year.

I like he is at 8th, give him some time before adding on the pressure by moving him up in the line up. Snider has to be more consistent before I would move him.

Yup. He's got lots of time to work himself up in the order...and I believe he will, but it's going to take some time. He's still a kid, but importantly, he's a kid with a LOT of potential. Hopefully the organization handles him properly, so he doesn't become the second coming of Josh Phelps (not that I think Phelps had the same potential/skillset as Snider).

He's going to be fine long term. Worst case scenario with this kid, I think, is a perennial 15-20 hr, 50-60 rbi guy (probably as a DH or 1st baseman). His ceiling, if he can reach it, is much, much higher than that (think 35-45 hr, 80-100 rbi).

Just my opinion.

Edit: Also, I have to say, I'm excited about Jays baseball again. Not because I think they'll win any more than ~75 ballgames, but because AA seems to have a plan and a commitment to make the team better through a long term building process, not stop gap, sign old guys so you can win 2-3 more games/year and keep your job etc etc.

Stupid Ricciardi, I can't stand that guy, I hope he never gets a job in MLB again.

Jays sign Lind:

Quote:
The Toronto Blue Jays signed outfielder Adam Lind to a four-year, US$18-million contract Saturday.

The deal runs through the 2013 season with club options for 2014, 2015 and 2016.

Very nice...

Club options? What an odd way to structure a contract. I don't think he learned how to do that from JP .

Pretty much the perfect contract for the organization for a guy like Lind. Great job AA.

I am a jays fan more than any other club no doubt, but that posted roster screams 100 loss season IMO.

Jays are on TSN right now. Trouncing the Astros 7-0 in the top of the third.

Hey, I'm expecting a losing season from them. But if they can get lucky with injuries this year, I think they will fair alot better than last year.

Snider looks a hell of alot more poised than last year.

Lind is ffffking awesome.

Hill if either walking, HR, or hitting doubles.

And this Morrow kid on the mound is not too shabby.

Yep, it's all pre-season, but I prefer a young guns rebuild to what we had been served the last 5 years or so. (I didn't watch much ball before that since the glory years).

I'm blown away by that Lind deal. Much less than I was expecting after his season last year.

He must really like Toronto. Glad they didn't go crazy on a single season performance.

IIRC Ricciardi did sign Aaron Hill to a similar contract with club option years. Granted Hill had not yet had his explosive season like Lind just had...great signing by AA.

I think it's great. He has less pressure and you can see he is thriving with it toward the end of spring training.

How many times have we seen Snider walk twice in one game before. He is learning patience and when to pick his pitches at a major league level. there is nothing wrong with that.

OK, maybe this is going to be one of thiose "look back at it and cringe" types ... but I don't see how this year's team is going to be significantly worse than last year's. Yes, they lost Halladay, and that's a huge loss, but they also will get Marcum back this year, looks like McGowan as well. Neither of those guys played any significant amount last year.

I mean, maybe I'm just excited because baseball means summer is coming, and I certainly don't expect improvement, but not an increase of more than 10 losses or anything. Am I nuts?

Playing in the AL East.....they will be really hard pressed to win 60 games IMO.

Boston, NY and Tampa are all legitimate playoff contending clubs. WHere are the Jays going to get many wins there?

Granted there is a summer of injuries and surprises waiting ahead, but I just cant see them doing anything of significance and certaily losing Halladay will cost them wins from last season.

Pitching staff is very patchwork... plenty of potential, but hasn't produced results yet. Apart from Marcum, I don't see anyone this year winning more than 10 games, unless something significant happens.
