Default Army Transport Helicopters in Calgary

I'm in the NW of Calgary and I just saw two army transport choppers fly by. Any ideas about why these birds are flying around? I have never seen any in Calgary.

Exercises either civil emergency, or they're resupplying or taking troops up to Wainwright

Last weekend or the weekend before, there were a pair of CF-18’s headed in the same general direction.

I'm not sure if these events are even related but supposedly the world's biggest transport plane was in Edmonton transporting helicopters and something else to Afghanistan.

Not related. The Antonov 225 was picking up helicopters operated by Canadian Helicopters for use in Afghanistan, not Canadian military hardware.

Were these just a couple of the Griffon choppers? Every now and then we have a couple come into YYC. Nothing out of the ordinary.

I love seeing military aircraft flying around. I would love it if CF-18s would fly over Edmonton on a daily basis. I never get tired of seeing them.

The only time I've seen CF-18's was when I was golfing at Confed and I heard this huge roar. It was pretty sweet.

I was on a exercise once when a pair of CF-18's came screaming over our position to simulate a bombing run. I swear those s were flying between the tree's. It was the most intimidating thing that I've ever seen.

Looks like they were two US Army Chinook Helicopters:

Apparently this was a fuel stop on their way up to Fairbanks, Alaska.

They were definitely Chinook Helicopters, no question.

Was pretty interesting....they were flying low (say about 600ft) and I was about half block away, got a great look.

Appears as if it was just a fuel stop before continuing to Alaska.

That's pretty cool. We have a Chinook squadron or company or whatever at our Air National Guard base here in the Quad Cities, but I've never seen them with skis.

March 12th I was driving to Vegas, and I saw two big choppers - I'm gonna guess it was those two - pulling things and towing stuff around the AB/Montana border. I think it was in Cardston I saw them, but it could have been on the other side of the border. I really don't know what they were doing, but I saw ropes hanging off the bottom of one, and there was a very large crowd on the ground around the area they were working. Pickup trucks, not military vehicles.
