Nystrom flat out doesn't have the hands, or hockey sense to deserve time in the top6... but he is damn good in his current role, and if the Flames don't resign him they will definitely regret it

So in reality, he gets most of his goals against the other team's top lines.

WTF is this in a WHL prospects thread?

Because we love derailing threads.

All I'm saying is that its not crazy to think that a guy could finally breakout at his age. How old was Franzen before he started scoring at a regular pace?

anyways getting back to my WHL prospects thread. Mitch Wahl is playing a big game 7 for the Chiefs tonight, he has played well but if they don't win tonight expect him to join the Heat for their run. Bouma has come back from injury and has played well for the Giants. Howse led Chilliwack to the playoffs this season, but they were eliminated in round1, but he did lead them in playoff scoring. Patterson is playing well with the Blades with 3 goals in four games. I have not been that impressed with Bennett, he has no points in six games but he's also playing a big game seven tonight as well for Portland.

Mitch Wahl: 6 games, 2 goals, 4 assists, 6 points

Ryan Howse: 6 games, 5 goals, 1 assist, 6 points

Gaelan Patterson: 4 games, 3 goals, 0 assist, 3 points

Lance Bouma: 4 games, 1 goal, 5 assists, 6 points, 12 pim

Spencer Bennett: 6 games, no points, +2

Howse is some kind of player. 5 goals in 6 playoff games is pretty damn good.

Isn't Bouma supposed to be an energy type guy? 6 points in 4 games could be the result of playing with top line players, but him and Howse are the most exciting forward prospects for me right now.

Might end up better for the Heat in the long run, they are without a decent first line center. Maybe Wahl can step on in now.

Isn't there some kind of age restriction on playing in the AHL? I know that's why Hodgson isn't playing for the Moose.

http://hfboards.com/showthread.php?t=403429

"There is a private agreement in place between the NHL and the CHL that governs when a player coming from the CHL can play in the AHL. A player from the CHL has to either turn 20 by December 31st of the season (ie a player born in 1987 can start playing in the 2007-08 season, a player born in 1988 can start playing in the 2008-09 season etc.) OR have completed 4 seasons of junior eligibility. This agreement also covers European players if they are drafted out of the CHL (Examples would be players like Petr Vrana and Ivan Vishnevskiy). Also - CHL players are eligible to play in the AHL once their junior season is over (either by virtue of their junior team not making the playoffs or being eliminated from the playoffs) even if they don't yet meet the age or eligibility criteria listed above."

So Wahl would qualify under that last part. Hodgeson would also be able to play once his team is eliminated from the playoffs (have they been?) I would think.

Speaking of Wahl, he signed a ATO today with the Heat.
Quote:
The Heat has signed F Mitch Wahl to an ATO. Wahl, 20, has spent his last four full season with the Spokane Chiefs of the Western Hockey League. Wahl, from Seal Beach, CA, led the Chiefs in scoring this past season with 30 goals, sixty six assists and 96 points. Wahl also scored four goals and nine assists in seven playoff games for Spokane in their first round series with the Portland WinterHawks. Wahl was a key member of the Chiefs 2008 Memorial Cup Championship. Wahl is a second round selection of the Calgary Flames (48th overall) in the 2008 NHL Entry Draft.

Thats just a tryout contract isnt it? Doesn't he have a pro contract with the Flames? Or would him playing the last few games use up a year of his pro contract?

Wahl is more or less a member of the Heat right now for good. Until he makes the big club at least.

So how long can he play on an ATO? Does he just have to be on it till the post season to not waste a year of his contract eligibility?

Not that it really matters, just mostly for my own information.

Wahl will be centering the 3rd line in Abbotsford according to his agent.

Nice, I think he will work his way up the depth chart pretty quickly. He is definitely a step above the centers this team has right now (the heat I mean). too bad i can't watch tonight, I am excited to see him make his debut.
