Default It came from the deep...

A deep sea survey team recently had one of these things come up 8500ft deep in the ocean on their equipment.

Pretty ugly creature. But nothing a little garlic butter wouldn't fix up.

Best comment from that link:

" I heard they recalled his suscreen because it didn't protect from rays " (referring to the crocodile hunter)

Why do the humans use tables when they have perfectly good bellies to eat on?

I love giant isopods! So much that I have a bunch of links about them. My favorite being this album: Songs About Giant Isopods. "An Isopod is Cute in the Eyes of an Isopod" is easily the best track.

Also a good species description from Deep Sea News, who also definitely love giant isopods.

And, the classic:

Also, I'm a little discouraged to see that someone who is involved in deep sea anything didn't know what it was. They're not unusual. Smaller isopods can be seen in pretty much every rocky tidepool, and the giant ones are just bigger. Here's a couple I've snapped in Oregon.

Here's my question then, if these guys can grow substantially larger 9000 feet or more below the surface, are there other animals that haven't been found that could be even bigger? i.e. Sharks.....what is the general consensus about megalodons?

It took awhile to find these scary dangerous creatures so who knows?

There was another thread about this a while ago, and while I like to think that there is tons of stuff we havent seen in the ocean's depths, its highly unlikely that the Megalodon remains.

Basically, it wasnt a deep water animal to begin with.

Didn't they just find the first intact remains of a colossal squid last year?

I imagine there is a lot of messed up looking stuff down there, Plant Earth showed us some pretty interesting stuff at depths.

Would it not be very under populated in the depths though? That makes me think it would be very tough for larger animals to survive, and force the bigger monsters up to feed and leave the depths to weird solo hunters.
