After chatting with MJK off and on for a while, the Habs decided to make one final splash before the trade deadline. This is how the deal broke down:

To Habs

Vanek
Harding
4th 2010
4th 2011

To Blue Jackets

TJ Oshie
Michael Del Zotto
Anterro Nittymaki

This is an interesting deal to break down, but the main reason for us to pull the trigger is Vanek's SC and his great SIM points. I want to go deep into the playoffs and Vanek gives us a very good chance to succeed.

Oshie wasn't fitting in on our team this year and while I like him long term, this gives us a win now mode with some future as well. Vanek will rebound next year, there's no doubt in my mind.

Del Zotto is a tough guy to move as he will be on a great contract and has great points as a rookie, but we have a ton of defensive depth and we could make this move.

The Nitty-Harding swap was the final piece and it's intriguing. This gives MJK the TB Lightning goaltending tandem which is good for his future...I get a young guy who is stuck behind Backstrom but the way goalies fatigue this year, I won't need him much in the playoffs.

Anyways, thanks for the deal MJK.

Sucks the Habs got Vanek.

Jackets get good young players to build around or most likely Trade for something to help now.

I hope the Habs make too many changes and ruin their chemistry going into the playoffs....

Love the deal both ways. Habs get Vanek who will help them in the playoffs where Dave gets solid players in Oshie and Del Zotto who will help him next season and beyond.

Looks like Montreal didn't get any first names in the deal. Massive miss by Simmer

I'm concerned with that as well, but I'm moving guys who are on the bottom lines so I think I'll be ok. I have 2 games to figure out some line combos!

I think it's a good deal for both sides. With Miller needing a 10 million dollar a year contract no way the Canadiens could keep Niitymaki and his salary as the backup. Vanek has been a SIM monster and in the NHL has scored 36 and 40 goals in the two years prior to this which are top 20 calibre totals.

Aside from Vanek's insane sim play this year, I really like this deal for the Jackets.

Vanek is having a down year, and Harding isn't being let go by the Wild, so hes stuck as the backup.

Now the Jackets get the Blues (NHL) future captain, Del Zotto who's having a fine rookie year and top it off they get Tampa's 2nd G after picking up Smith earlier. So now Penney just has to hope for one of them to take the job and run with it.

But nice move by Simmer to load up for the run too, Vanek is a sim machine everywhere hes gone and I doubt Montreal will be any different.
