Those types of tables are actually very poor quality. The wood usually is garbage.

Cost doesn't necessarily mean quality.
I've seen some pieces at various shops that are well over 10K each and have slightly better quality than the stuff you would find at the Brick

All I could think of was getting my fingers caught in the paneling.

If it's made of solid teak it sure does mean quality. Four figures worth of raw materials don't get manufactured by a couple of goof balls.

I get that!
Trust me though, the teak table I seen similar to the one on the vid is total quality, you could barely see a joint and I'm told teak doesn't warp once it's dried...ever! I also suspect the one on the 20 million dollar yacht is probably "quality"
In most cases you get at least half what you pay for.

I think you're probably confusing that table with something else, like this

Where did you get that pic of my parents' kitchen in the mid-90s from?

I'm trying to figure out whether the table is a perfect circle in it's small size or it large size - it can't be both.

Nah, 90% of tables that have those kind of mechanisms, they tend to wear the wood down because of the shuffling over time in certain spots (usually along the seams and where the transition spots are), so they usually use wood that will wear, but that doesn't have much value because of that. That's why you usually see items like that made out of glass and metal instead.
Yes, that table is rather awesome isn't it....

Weird how there are two 35k high class dinner table experts (myself and CG) on some obscure thread on CP at the same time.

If you look at the video you can see that it's a circle both when large and when small. When the table is small the moving pie-shaped pieces don't form a circle themselves, but they fit flush into the outer frame of the table which is circular.
On a side note, I think it is very weird that there is a whole thread about this.

I can see from the manufacturers website that some models have a round frame for the smaller table, so that both sizes are round. Not all of them though. It appears that some of the tables are round when they are small, some are round when they are big, and some have the extra frame when the table is small so that it can be round at both sizes.
