Shots fired between North and South Korea

South Korea's military has sent vessels to waters near its maritime border with North Korea after an explosion ripped a hole in the bottom of a South Korean navy ship, sinking it.
The ship with more than 100 crew on board began sinking off the coast of South Korean-controlled Baengnyeong Island, close to North Korea, around 10:45 p.m. local time Friday, said an official at the Joint Chiefs of Staff office in Seoul, speaking on condition of anonymity.
The exact cause was not immediately clear. South Korea's Yonhap news agency reported an explosion in the rear of the ship, but the official said he could not confirm the report.
Minutes later, Yonhap reported that another South Korean ship fired shots toward an unidentified target in the direction of North Korea. The Joint Chiefs official said he could not confirm the shooting but said the military was strengthening its vigilance in the area.

hmmmmmmmmm I guess we'll have to wait and see. From what I understand, Kim doesn't have much longer to live, so god knows what he'll be trying to accomplish before he kicks the bucket.

To me the explosion sounds more like a mine then a torpedo. A small ship would have pretty well been gone if it had been a modern torpedo.
More then likely the ship hit a mine and detected either a sub or vessel that was laying down the mines and fired on it.

The only thing that he wants to accomplish is a smooth transition to his son.
The next step will be a purge of the Politburo and high ranking members of state security and possibly the military.

I just read a very interesting book on N. Korea called the Cleanest Race and while facinating, its pretty gloomy...this Military First regime is unsustainable and beyond unreasonable
