And just for good measure one more T&S...

The steel harp on the Kiko album brings tears to my eyes.

How can something so profoundly horrific be so beautiful?

That's definitely the best song on the Illinoise album. edit: Casimir Pulaski Day is actually probably the best.

Already mentioned that are on my list:

Matthew Good - Avalanche
Imogen Heap - Hide & Seek

I still remember the day I heard Born to Kill by the Matthew Good Band. I was at a red light in front of the Macdonalds by the Northland Mall. I'd been listening to the album a few times but all of a sudden this orchestra part near the end really resonated with me. To this day it remains my favorite song. Here's an ... umm ... interesting fan video.

... and holy hell thanks to this thread I found a live version: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EdGzIrN-lCw

+1 for Born to Kill. When I bought the "Beautiful Midnight" album, the first time I listened to it I had it cranked and when this song ended I thought I had blown my speakers.

Matt Good has put out a few real show stoppers. "Weapon" was one that really jumped out at me as well - brilliant video too.

not sure if this was the exact song, but the first time I saw these guys on The New Music when I was eight planted the seeds:
