TV presenter gets death sentence for 'sorcery'
A good laugh, some guy was predicting the future on his TV show in Lebanon and was arrested when entering Saudi Arabia for sorcery, then promptly sentenced to death.
Tough crowd.
Quote:
According to his lawyer, Sibat, who is 48 and has five children, would predict the future on his show and give out advice to his audience.
The attorney, May El Khansa, who is in Lebanon, tells CNN her client was arrested by Saudi Arabia's religious police (known as the Mutawa'een) and charged with sorcery while visiting the country in May 2008. Sibat was in Saudi Arabia to perform the Islamic religious pilgrimage known as Umra.
Sibat was then put on trial. In November 2009, a court in the Saudi city of Medina found Sibat guilty and sentenced him to death.

Saudi Arabia is the biggest hellhole on the planet. I'd rather be eaten alive by mosquitos in a Louisiana swamp than live there.

This would be comical...if it didn't involve murdering an entertainer and this murder wasn't commited by a government with half the world's oil resources.
Seriously though...sorcery. Will there be a trial? If so I would love to see the prosecution's case brief on that one.

I wouldn't want to be punished for such a thing, but I do think it would be an awesome thing to be suspected of. I would have to start wearing a cloak.

I don't get it the humour here...
From what I can understand, the guy's a TV celebrity who was visiting another country. While in that country, he was arrested and charged with breaking a local religious law based on the content of his show. He has been tried, found guilty and sentenced to death for his crime. He has appealed the decision but lost his appeal and had his sentence upheld... All the while, he has been locked away in a foreign prison and hasn't seen his wife and family for two years.
I realize that the "sorcery" aspect of it is kinda funny... I chuckled a little bit myself, until I read the story... but this guy is going to be put to death. We shouldn't be laughing about it, we should should be encouraging their Government to let him go.
Edit: Unless, of course, they have a special clause that allows them to also kill people who support sorcerers. In which case, I'll just keep my mouth shut and keep using their oil in my car.

Considering I'm an actual sorcerer, remind me to not visit Saudi Arabia.

Can we consider CP radio sorcery? I mean aren't those guys predicting moves, the upcoming season results, stanley cup winners, etc..
I think CP needs to put up a travel advisory on Saudi Arabia!

Anyone want to donate free tickets to Silvia Browne for a fake 1 on 1 reading in Saudi Arabia, I'd be glad to throw in some money for the cause.

So I take it they don't sell many copies of The Hockey Forecaster in Saudi Arabia. Hmmm... Perhaps we can all chip in and buy Eklund a ticket there.

Nobody should visit Saudi Arabia no matter what profession.
Can't even get drunk there.

you can, as long as you are on an American compound or some other specified non-Islamic territory.
But really, nobody should visit Saudi Arabia.

He should use his +3 spell of teleportation to get himself out of jail. You said he's a sorcerer right?
