I haven't yet played the game, but after reading through this thread, some of the comments have me thinking it's CSI: Parappa the Rappa. Or maybe the latest iteration of Incredible Crisis (which was an amazing game).
I'm sure I'll still give it a try, but I'm a bit more jaded toward it now. I really hate it when games try to make the most mundane tasks interesting by requiring some sort of complex input to get it done. I have asthma - let me tell you, taking a puff of my inhaler is not exciting in real life, so why it's noteworthy enough in a game to warrant a button combination to get it done is beyond me.
The game is incredible. One of the greatest stories presented in a game, and the cinematic design was perfect. Definitely in the running for GOTY votes, but we still have a lot of games to see. I've never been emotionally attached to characters like I was in this game, and it plays perfectly. Anyone that complains about the QTE or the controls likely hasn't played it, or lacks the mental capacity push buttons on queue.
Easily one of the top 5 PS3 games and a must own for anyone with the console.
Well I bought it. Now the PS3 is screwed for another 24 hours. I have a 4 month old kid and my wife took him to visit her parents. I won't go on a raging nerd rant here, but the timing of the PS3 going down is really rough.

Yeah it's kinda like a game from the music genre....a bunch of commands appear on the screen and depending on how well you follow them relates to what happens on screen. Elite Beat Agents for the nintendo DS comes to mind. Incredible Crisis was a hilarious game and some of the mini games in that are similar to what you do in Heavy Rain. Not really a new gameplay concept, just updated in a new presentation.
And all the mundane stuff is pretty much just a tutorial on the controls and they're not complex at all. If your character is in a difficult situation though, then the control complexity is adjusted accordingly(like more button presses, less time etc.)
I tried the demo last night and I was kind of meh about it. It seemed interesting and definitely different but as the demo went on I couldn't help feeling if I could really handle hours on end of pressing buttons in sequence like that and sweeping crime scenes with my funky shades. I'm not sure what it was exactly; I didn't find the controls difficult.
I wanted to like it but I'm just not sure if I'm prepared to spend $60 on it at this point. Is the demo a good reflection of the game itself? It sounds like the game might draw you in a bit.

No, the demo isn't a reflection of the actual game. It's a story driven game, and playing through the game is a very rewarding experience.
It's the best game that's be released so far this year, and definitely one that I'd like to keep in my collection.

the game definitely grows on you. the start is quite slow, as you're introduced to the characters and game mechanics. but once the story gets into full swing it's hard to put down
You can easily beat the game on a rental but there are multiple endings and different ways to tackle situations keeping replays entertaining. It's also fun watching other people play through the game and see what they do differently.
Also, there are downloadable episodes that will be coming out. I think the first one comes out today on the psn store...it's free if you pre-ordered the game.
I just finished this game - can totally see why it wouldn't be everyone's cup of tea but I absolutely loved it. Like many of the reviews state, it was alot like playing a movie for 10 hours.
I had cut back on my video game time over the last few years between work and other stuff but between Heavy Rain, The Show 2010, Dragon Age and Red Dead Redemption this Spring I've been making PS3 time and will continue to!
A new dlc chapter is coming April 1st for 5 bucks. It's the same one that came if you preordered it. Supposedly there's going to be one for each character coming later on.
I loved Heavy Rain, if you're evaluating it as a game...it's not very good.
If however, you're evaluating it as an 'interactive drama'...wow...this is pretty much an interactive movie that forces you to pay attention, if you don't...people die.
Probably the most graphically realistic game I've ever played. Just gorgeous and lots of fun. Really makes you tense in some situations in a fun sort of way. Only complaint is that it's relatively easy and short. Even playing on the hardest difficulty I had it finished in a few days with one of the ''best'' endings.
