Default How do spiders survive over winter in your house? Warning: Spider and centipede pics.

So I just saw this massive spider in my kitchen. As far as I can tell, there aren't any bugs in my house, so how do they survive?

Because there are no bugs in the house to eat, like she originally said? She's wondering why they don't die of starvation, not cold, which you'd understand if you weren't from some benighted country where proper English isn't spoken.

Oh, probably not, but the answer to the question is then "there probably *are* bugs in the house", not "why would they freeze to death inside".

When a spider lays eggs, there can be hundreds of spider hatchings so while you might think there's no food and it's the same spider, it's probably just many spiders as eggs in your house over winter.

I just hate the webs with the dead spiders because they had no food. It's gross on all your stuff like in the basement, etc.

lol You crack me up Jammies. Your virtual bitch-slaps are always gold.

OT, I have always wondered the same thing and long ago came to the conclusion that there must be enough tiny bugs for the spiders to survive. *shrugs*

Think about this logically.

If there are actually spiders in the house.

There are other bugs in the house too.

I guess all those crumbs that get strewn about a house on a daily basis constitute absolutely no food source for arachnids. I didn't know it was bugs for dinner or death!

There's only been one described vegetarian species of spider found in Mexico. But the others eat other insects, and some eat birds and such. According to Wikipedia anyway.
