I don't like this for the simple fact that I woke up at 1:30 today. That just seems so late.

Tomorrow will be hard to wake up
By wednesday or so, I'll forget anything happened.

It takes a week for your body to adjust to 1 hour time shift. You will be more cranky and tired this week than any other week of the year, at least that's the reason I am giving my wife.

Arizona is America's Saskatchewan when it comes to timezones, apparently. Just gotta be different. I think that Saskatchewanians and Arizonians are on to something and are probably laughing at the rest of us as we fumble around changing clocks twice a year.

Blue - use DST
Orange - no longer use DST
Red - Never used DST

Anyone know how a part of north eastern BC, Quebec City does not use it but the rest of the province does?

Seems weird

I think the area of northeastern BC has something to do with the oil and natural gas business. It made sense for them to sync their clocks with Alberta at some points of the year.

This is such a pain when writing international software, not only do I have to know what uses DST and what doesn't, I have to track when it changes to ensure historical data is still good.

That's the problem with staying on DST year-round. If we did, it wouldn't get light out until 9am in many parts of North America during the winter, which would be potentially dangerous for pedestrians, especially school children, during the morning hours. They've pretty much stretched the limits of how long they can extend DST now.

Actually, if you look at a time zone map, Saskatchewan really should be in the Mountain Time Zone, so rather than thinking of them staying on CST year-round, you could think of them as staying on MDT year-round. If you look at the sunrise and sunset times for Saskatoon in December/January, sunrise is after 9am for about a month and a half.

2) Reduce Crime - he said there are actually studies that show crime goes down the less daylight there is to do said crimes.

3) Can't remember what he said about the third reason.
The third reason is so the Germans can't find our cities as easily when they attempt night-time blitzkriegs. Although, that's not as important today as it was a few decades ago.

Now, it has more to do with keeping golf courses open later.

The only thing time change ever did for me was when I was 17 and my weekend curfew was 2am. Did I ever tell you guys about that one october night that I got to stay out an hour later? Nothing really happened.

But seriously, I think the whole act of changing the clocks twice a year is ridiculous. Whatever the reasoning was, back in the early 1900s when it started, is antiquated. I hate to sound like a total whiner, but it's just so annoying to go around and change all the clocks. And the older I get, the more this one hour fatas with my body. Strangely, I can get over an 8 hour jet lag in a day or two, but the one hour of spring ahead screws up my body for like a week.
I know. Woe is me.

The time change is a pain, but I'll deal with a few days of being thrown off my schedule to have it be light when I'm leaving work and to have an extra hour of useful sunlight each evening in the summer.

Haha spent a week there in '08 and I don't think we ever properly figured out what time it was there the entire trip. Half our hotel room clocks said one time and the others said another. And every time we asked someone we seemed to get a different answer. To this day I still don't know if its Pacific or Mountain there(though I assumed Pacific).

It really should be left on Summer time as that way we get more Daylight at night year round.

The no Daylight in the morning doesn't bother me as during the winter the extra hour doesn't make it light out when I leave for work but it does make it dark out when I leave work. So for me to get more usalbe light during non-work ours the Summer Alberta time makes more sense.

"Won't somebody please think of the children!"

Seriously, letting kids go to school during at least some daylight is a good idea in my books. And I don't even have kids.

A few years ago I was debating this and I said "I for the life of me can't think of one good reason why not to stay on summer time all year round. Give me one good reason and I'll listen." To that the response I received (from Daradon) was so kids don't have to go to school in the dark. From that moment on I've supported whole heartedly the fall-back/spring-forward Daylight Savings Time philosophy.

I don't have kids, but think children going to school in the dark is just plain wrong.

Couldn't we just have schools change their hours? Call me a madman, but that seems like a permanent solution to the issue much simpler than messing with the clocks twice a year.

I wonder if there is also something psychological about going back to standard time. Meaning this- would we be in a situation in a decade where we want to change the clocks forward again; seeing as people have started getting up later and then staying up later.

That'd be a nightmare for parents who drive or pick up their kids. They would have to make arrangements or change their work hours. It's actually alot easier to change clocks two times a year.

But I do hate waking up at 1:55am just to change all my clocks. The time should change at a more reasonable time like 10pm when more people are awake to adjust their clocks.
