I don't buy these conspiracy theories. I think the beauty of the USA and Canada is that anyone from any racial or religious background can become powerful and make an impact on their nation.
Here's a list of famous Arab-Americans

Amazing article. Sea change in relations between these two countries. It wont amount to much. Israelis know that Obama is weak and is already over extended. They will lie low and continue clandestine settlement building like they have been doing for the better part of 10 years now. In either case, this is a remarkable change in attitude in the U.S. It does give sign for hope.

Really?
Many of Israels neighbors are neither civilized nor open to negotiations. Look no further than Husseins inane funding of terrorists against Israel and Iran wanting to obliterate every jew alive.
You don't "negotiate" with these people...as they dont care what you have to say.

Bah... I think this is all a ploy. Israel stirs up a hornets nest. Then the USA comes into to put Israel in its place. It makes the USA look like an objective mediator.
In reality, these are just plans to build houses several years down the road. No actual construction has been done. Israel can now "stop the plans". If these peace talks fail, construction goes ahead in a few years anyway.
I think it's painfully obvious what is going here and the media is so predictably anti-Israel that it is easily manipulated.

I love this thread - I merely pointed out the percentage of Jewish elected officials at the federal level and people are saying "I don't believe this conspiracy theory."
There is no conspiracy - those numbers are facts.

But you're clearly suggesting that the US is controlled by Jews and their money. Context is important to any facts. It would be like if we were having a conversation about black people and I selectively chose statistics on the criminal population in the states. Yes they may be facts, but depending on their context they become something else.
Can we also point out that the richest man in the world is now an arab. Does that mean arabs secretly control the world now?

Iran has really nothing to do with Israel/Palestine. They are to Hamas and Hezbollah what the US is to Israel. A supplier of weapons and moral support. If Israel and Palestine were to sit down and work out a peace agreement, I can guarantee you Iran would mind their own business and concentrate on their own internal issues, as would the United States.
I am referring to neighbours like Syria, Lebanon and Palestine. People that have a real beef with Israel. As was seen with Egypt and Jordan, yes these people do want to negotiate and a peace deal can be hammered out even after decades of war.
May I remind you that since the 1970s Syria has never once attacked Israel, yet Israel has on numerous occasions infiltrated Syrian territory to either bomb or simply intimidate the Syrian government.

The arab world is not as rich as North America or Western Europe, but they are far from being impoverished. In fact the poorer Muslim countries tend to mind their own business when it comes to hatred for Israel or the west. When was the last time you heard of a Bengali Suicide bomber or Senegalese terrorist organization launching rockets at Israel?

Yeah because bombing a nuclear power plant that is attempting to make nuclear weapons to threaten Israel with is totally intimidation.
And Iran isn't going away. They will develop nukes and threaten Israel.

It's been shown that a lot of terrorists aren't actually poor. See Osama Bin Laden as the most extreme example.
Israel is just an excuse for terrorism. If it wasn't for Israel they would just use Chechnya, Iraq, Tamil, or some other conflict as their pet cause. If your the kind of person willing to walk into a crowd of people with a suicide belt on because Israel is persecuting people 1000s of kilometers away it doesn't take much to push you over the edge.

Mexican isn't an ethnicity. It's like Canadian or American. The richest man in the world is a Mexican of Lebanese decent.

Where's the conspiracy element in pointing out those facts? All they show is that people with Pro-Israel interests have a significant voice in the US.

That's a pretty bold guarantee. I'm very doubtful that Iran wouldn't be involved, at least indirectly. A nation that is based on oppression and gains significant wealth from arms dealing has a vested interest in continued instability in the region.

Just as Israel has a right to defend itself, every other nation does as well. When the neighbourhood bully has a big stick, you want to get a bigger stick so you don't get your ass beat. Israel was the first and only country in the region to acquire weapons of mass destruction and it is unfair to expect Syria or Iran for that matter to try to deter an Israeli attack by purely conventional means.

Fair enough. I'm not a fan of Iran, but I think if we were to have peace and stability in the region, there would be no need to buy arms from Iran. As it stands, there are no weapons being dealt to terrorist organizations in Jordan or Egypt.

Although discussing the middle east situation is a good excersise in politics, foreign policy and religion, it is also pointless.
There will never be peace in that region. Ever.
The goal is to keep it from boiling over. Its like that car thats hanging over the edge of a cliff. The west tries to put some birds on the trunk to keep it from tipping over the end, Iran puts some birds on the hood, and it goes back and forth.
In my lifetime I hope I don't see the Israel issue come to a head, because it will be far more disastrous than Iraq or Afghanistan.
As long as the west continues to support Israel, terrorists will attack western targets. Its just the way it is.

As long as their are terrorists, terrorists will continue to attack the West.
If terrorism defeated Israel, it would only embolden the groups not appease them.
I also disagree with you as to whether peace is attainable. It most certainly is. The politics in that region are constantly changing. 50 years ago Lebanon and Iran were Israel's strongest allies. The US did not support Israel as they saw it as a socialist state.
People are always pointing to the fact there has always been war in that region and using Roman conquest or the crusades as examples. However, just about any region in the world has a similar history of conflict.

You mean except for the fact that their elected leader has called for the obliteration of the country?
Is that what "having nothing to do with" means in your world? OK then.

No you cannot guarantee such a thing...ridiculous claim.

I think it's because they don't like the team I'm on.
