Yeah same here. From what I played of ff12, it had the makings of an excellent story. I had alot of difficulty getting past the graphics.

Completely agree with the "done with the ps2" part. FF12 was the last game I bought for my PS2, and I tried hard to beat it before I hooked up the PS3 for good but... no dice there.
A lot of people don't give credit to FF8, which was one of my favorites.
Gun + sword = gunblade = awesome.

I dont really like ff8 ... i dont htink it was a very strong game. the plot was uninteresting and the game mechanics weren't as good as FFX. the only reason I actually prefer ff7 to X is the amazing story and villain... FFX was great but it didnt have one central main villain as powerful as sephiroth

On a side note, I wish I could reach in the TV and b*tchslap a couple of the characters (mainly just the whiny kid, and to a lesser extent, the ######y pedo blonde guy).

I hated the Draw system in FF8...
You don't think Sin was powerful?
But I know what you mean - Sin was just some... THING.
Sephiroth was pure bad ass and had a wicked song to go along with it.

I preferred the 2D graphics if it meant you could explore towns and areas (and the world). It was funny because 7 was built up so much, it being the first cross platform, first under the same English and Jappo release, and was so many people's first taste of the franchise and everyone thought it was amazing and I thought it was average at best.
12 brought back true exploration for me, so that was a big plus. Probably the biggest reason why I didn't like the games 7+ as much as the ones before them. I liked the changes in combat, but I understand how one might not. As for the story I thought it was quite good, a little more adult than many of the last. A little more political, at least in the beginning. But storyline is obviously subjective too.
I also own the 2/4, 5, and 3/6 on the PS bundle packs (one came with Chrono Trigger too, another great game. Those are classics.

If you like randomness and not following a path I would not suggest this game for you then(if it really bugs you that much, but it sounds like you are an FF fan and will play it anyways). FFXIII is very linear so far and I am about 8 hours in. I like the game and I am enjoying every minute and the story seems very strong. The annoying characters get a little less annoying as you go on. If the reviews are true at reporting an FFX resemblance they are correct as the sphere grid is essentially back(but more guided) and the combat is FFX Style, but in real time. FFXII definitely comes through in the running around and having the mobs being present on the map. The Combat gets a lot more difficult to do successfully at 5 stars after the initial starting area (3 - 4 Hrs of play). At 8 Hours in I just received another tutorial and the game is getting more and more diverse in what you can do, but your pathing is very structured.

Sin was awesome, and the whole patriarchal theme to the game was completley bad ass, but the enemy gave off more of a general sense of dread. Seymour and Anima were fantastic, but Sephiroth and the catacylsmic meteor are still tops. Kefka would rank ahed of sin too, imo. Dont get me wrong tho, FFX was epic. I loved the story, the charecters, everything. And the fact that at the end Tidus didn't die but didn't "make it" either, was superb. The world was linear but very much a living breathing entity. I think that's why I liked FF7 too... the whole world felt organic and alive

I think Kefka was better than Sephiroth. Kefka didn't even have a reason to be a villian, he just wanted everything gone.
I think my nerd level just went up by 5 points typing that sentence.

I agree.
Kefka was just flat out insane.
Even how he took out Cyan's country before he destroys the world... and he had an awesome laugh considering it was SNES era.

Might be time to pick up an emulator for my PC rather than FF13 for the PS3...

Xbox vs PS3
This video might help you see the difference between the two. Personally, I can't tell the difference. Apparently load times differ between the two. If I recall correctly, Xbox might load quicker because the game is spread out on 3 discs.

+1 to you and Lithium.
Kefka was the best villian in FF. And that laugh ROCKED!!!
Seph was maybe 2nd.
I can't believe so many people loved 7 and 10. I was quite disappointed with them. Again nothing against that, just finding out where I stand.
2/4 and 3/6 were my masterpieces. And I loved 12, which I'm beginning to sense I'm in the minority for.
As well, to the one who recommended a different series to me, I do agree that FF is generally very linear and I am beginning to like other less linear titles. But I just love the franchise so no worries there. But you are right, there are lots of other series that play differently.
I guess I just grew up in the 2D era and was used to being able to walk everywhere (even if you did get attacked a lot for doing it) and when they first made the transition to better graphics, it took out all the exploring and talking I liked.

I'm an enormous FF fan, faves are VI, VII, and X, and I'm REALLY enjoying it.
But, Daradon, I also though XII was an absolute travesty and easily the worst since it went 3D. Different tastes :P

That's about where I'm at right now... he just poisoned and killed Cyan's country, killing Cyan's family and everyone else he knew.
I think it will be a while before I get to 13 (as mentioned previously in this thread I started with 1 and am building my way to 13). I think I'll skip 11 since I don't want to pay for online time, but will play X-2 instead.
