The story on the news this morning is "You partially paid for Sarah Palin's visit" as Enmax, a public company, was one of the major sponsors. Ric McIvor and other councillors are looking into this. Worthy news story?
I would file this in in the "Idiot local politician trying to get cheap publicity" folder...
McIvor with his "investigation" of the Enmax sponsorship... But that's OK - the more he does to make himself look stupid, the better the chances of us electing you to be mayor.
Apparently Sarah Palin – in all her private enterprise-loving ways – used to hop the border with her family to receive free – but not totally free, because the cost of death-panels and old-people-murdering is a heavy toll to pay – Canadian health care. She admits this freely, even after denigrating the Canadian system openly many times before.
Was this just a lame attempt at appealing to the Canadian masses during her speech in Alberta? Or did she really think this was a good thing to admit to, especially considering the stance of the Republican party on issues relating to American health care reform?

She's smart enough to make millions of dollars in the last year which is more than a lot of you guys in this thread are doing.
I'd question the reasoning powers of anyone who thinks the world is about 4,500 years old so she isn't someone I'd vote for in a million dinosaur years.
Another publicly proclaimed idiot, Paris Hilton, isn't so stupid either considering she's manufacturing millions of dollars through brand creation.
Palin has to know her chances of becoming President are pretty slim - I'd say virtually nil - but she's probably smart enough to see that, for whatever reason, the public, both her detractors and fans, go Ape-Nuts over her, one way or the other.
And that's the key. Controversy sells. That always spells money if you're willing to go out and grab it.
That's what she's doing. Good for her. She's probably got a long, long ways to go with this. I doubt if she can rehabilitate her image though. First impressions can make her rich but they'll prevent her from becoming President, rightly or wrongly.
Also, I can't stand her voice.

Yeah but no one was questioning her ability to be controversial, or stay in the headlines, or make money off of it all.
You don't always have to be smart to make millions. Sometimes it is enough to be sexy, athletic, connected, or lucky.
What Sarah Palin is doing these days is pretty clever.
There is clearly a strategy there, it's multi-layered with defined multi-year goals and it's being executed on a consistent basis.
Although she's minting money right now the ultimate goal - probably unattainable - is to spend the next years rehabilitating that rather awful first impression she left us with. The secondary goals seem to surround being someone of influence and, of course, getting rich (I like that one).
Surrendering the governorship, questioned at the time, appeared to be, in hindsight a calculated risk to give her more freedom to maneuver (a reality show? WTF?).
Again, anyone who thinks dinosaurs were around 4,500 years ago - and there are a lot of people in the world who think that, not just America - has got some serious issues with critical thinking as far as I'm concerned.
But there are entire continents of people who don't believe in dinosaurs so I'm not going to prevent that from letting me watch the show with mild bemusement.
She wouldn't get my vote.
But dumb?

Palin's father said Monday they had little choice, given their location in Skagway.
"There was no road out of there at that time," said retired teacher Chuck Heath, reached by phone in Wasilla. "The ferry schedule was very erratic. We had no doctor in Skagway. The plane schedule was very erratic. The winds dictated whether the planes could come in or not."
Palin's father said his family probably boarded the train for the Whitehorse hospital only twice - once when a daughter had rheumatic fever, and once when his son, also named Chuck, severely burned his leg and an infection set in.
