Nice to see many people say Calgary.
For me, I think Calgary can and will be my dream place to live in about 20 years. It needs a bit of maturing, growing up much like Vancouver has in the past 20 years growing from 1 to 2 million people. I definitely think Calgary's on the right track in many respects. Hope to be a big part of its growth and evolution into a big city.

I live in Osotoos BC and for me this is pretty much close to my ideal place to live. I wish it was a bit more active year round, and I do wish the hiway North to Penticton wasn't such a joke. Maybe be a bit closer to an international airport. I probably could handle Penticton, but in the summer there is just something about the far South part of the Okanagon that I really love. Waking up and looking at the lake and winery's from my front porch is tough to complain about. I can't ever see myself not wanting to live in Canada. Ideally I'd spend about 8-9 months here, and than 3-4 months somewhere warmer for the winter. I've always liked travelling so I think I could alternate destinations between places like South America, and Australia/New Zealand every year and come home for spring, summer, and fall.

With the influx of immigrants from Southeast Asia and Latin America, the choices only get better!
I'll take my po' boy dressed...

well, my user name should say that. Calgary does rock. I would be happy to live here the rest of my life, but that is many many years. I have travelled a little (australia, hong kong, singapore, western states and canada) but have sooo much more travelling to do. Calgary is a great city, not perfect obviously, but I am glad i grew up here

Calgary in the summer, Kauai in the winter. Of course those plans could change between now and 35 years from now, when it would actually be possible for me.

A beautiful valley about 9km from Amélie-les-Bains in the Pyrénées-Orientales region of southern France.
Looks kinda like:
And the dream will be coming true in a few months.

I wouldn't say I have one place in mind, but after having lived in few different parts of the world now I am getting a better and better idea of what things I want that place to have.
I need sunshine. Lots of it. I also need a lot of nature, but I want to be close enough to a major international metropolis that it is accessible for weekends and short trips. I'd like to be somewhere that is warm year round and has lots of outdoor activities. Somewhere on good travel routes and which has many celebrations throughout the year. I also want it to be a place where people tend to be very outgoing and like to have a good time. I also want it to be clean. That's definitely important.
I've been looking at jobs in Pattaya to go live in Thailand after my current contract finishes. I really like Asia, but I need to get out of the north and back to somewhere sunny, warm and fun. I like Bangkok as a big city, and that wouldn't be too far away from Pattaya.

Haven't read the entire thread but I'm guessing no-one else has said Dawson City yet. Having been up there a couple years back, the history, rugged beauty, and spirit were intoxicating and I would jump at the chance to spend a couple years up there, immersed in the Yukon.

Johnny, for as long as I've been on this board you've been living in China, at least as far as I can remember. I've always envied you for doing that, especially as an ex-pat. If I know anything about my being in the first few years of my career, I know that I want to be doing it as a permanent ex-pat somewhere like you, preferably in Asia.

^^ Slocan Valley is money, but people shouldn't come so that it can stay the way it is.
Also, Northern Minnesota is pretty fantastic, I could see myself living there.
