Default Don't *bleep* With Finland Snipers

"The White Death" as known to invading Soviet Soldiers was credited with 705 kills when his homeland was invaded in 1939.

Oh and 4 other bad-ass real life soldiers that make Rambo look like a pu$$y: (language warning!)

http://www.cracked.com/article_17019...ook-like-.html

More info on the Finnish bad-ass:
Quote:
He preferred to use iron sights rather than telescopic sights to present a smaller target (the sniper must raise his head higher when using a telescopic sight), to prevent visibility risks (a telescopic sight's glass can fog up easily), and aid concealment (sunlight glare in telescopic sight lenses can reveal a sniper's position). Another tactic used by Häyhä was to compact the snow in front of him so that the shot wouldn't disturb the snow, thus revealing his position. He also kept snow in his mouth so that when breathing he wouldn't reveal his position.

That's some crazy stuff man. How do you kill so many guys without a scope? Sure it could 'give you away' but you need to see them first before you see them...

Go Rob Furlong!! It's crazy how many dimensions they have to take into account with distances like that.

Finland outnumbered 6 to 1, out killed the russians nearly 30 to 1.

Don't screw around with the Finns

Such a strange coincidence. I read about this a couple years ago, and for some reason, I remembered it about a week ago while driving (cue joke about my road rage). I was going to google it when I got home and read about it again, but I forgot. Now it's here on page one of CP. Weeeird.

Holy crap, 750 grain bullets! You could take down a tank with that. Only travelling at 823 feet / second, the trajectory must be ridiculous. It took four seconds after he fired to hit... you'd have to lead a guy at a brisk walk by four metres. Crazy.

A pretty terrible story actually, they were celebrated and then the army turned their backs on them and forced most of the sniper team out. Furlong left the army in disgust. Canadian Forces, good job politicians and armchair generals...

I just noticed this thread. I was going to point out the same thing. On the military channel a couple of weeks ago they had an US Army Ranger Sniper try to mimic that same shot and couldn't do it. It really was a 1 in a million shot.

But the guy actually hit him almost 3 times. The first was like a foot off. The 2nd shot got him in the backpack. The 3rd shot got him in the torso.

Credit is due to being outmatched by so much but the soviets were known to just RUSH the opponent even with out weapons and killing their own troops if they retreated. Soviet command was brutal.

It was an American .50 cal bullet too. I think the Canadian version was more blunt and didn't travel through the air as good.

Anyways still one hell of a shot. The thing on the military channel when he was speaking basically said the guy he shot just stood there when he was getting shot at like a complete fool.

Amazing shot none the less.

Audie Murphy, crazy little M-F. I think he killed over 250 German's and captured well over another 100.

This is a clip from his movie "To Hell and Back" (he plays himself) but this is a documented true event.
