Yeah the login servers are down, and apparently at least some people are having all their progress wiped out. I hope it doesn't happen to me, I don't mind the levels, but I got my Ace Pin, and I RARELY finish top on a map.

Been playing through the single player levels to get a feel for the game, they're pretty fun, though the game just completely crashed out on me.

The single player is pretty good. Are they whispering sometimes because the conversations seem to cut out in the cinematics
?

It just means you're moving in too quickly. While you can run and gun it, some time can be taken out to listen to random things like (SPOILER:Haggard has an anecdote about the wacky tobaccky at the logging camp, and Redford recites the entire battle plan for the special ops group from predator. )

Awesome game. Multiplayer is fantastic once you get online. Game feels very similar to the first.

That was a failed program from the 90s that was cancelled and it will never see the light of day and shouldn't. It's a fantasy gun that wasn't very good as a platform (early model plastic would melt under heat of the barrel, had no rail system). It will never be made or ever used.

The G36K/E/V is what the XM8 should be in this game as it's practically the same gun mechanically but I guess the developers were too cheap to play for proper HK liscenses (the HK 416 is the M416). Having the XM8 compact for the Engineer is even dumber when it should be the G36C. Then again, the MG36 is in there as support gun under the XM8 LG so I'm confused as to this decision. They are practically the same thing designed by HK but with a different plastic reciever.

I can't see any reason why it's in this game at all. It will never be manufactured or produced or used by any army. That sort of ruins the immersion of the game for me. These guys didn't do their research very well. They aren't actually paying attention to actual future gun trends, they are about 10 years out of date. At least MW2 got some of it right (Bushmaster ACR - aka Magpul Masada).

They need more customization and optics options too. Only mini reflex sights and a generic 4x rifle scope is kind of bland. I guess they'd have to pay for lisenses for Aimpoint and Trijicon for other options though.

*edit - I guess this game takes place in an alternate history in the 90s? The soldiers are all wearing 90s style uniforms.

Absolutely. It was disappointing that the EA (Authentication?) Servers took a couple big dumps last night, but overall, a great experience. Here are some thoughts (based on the PC experience):

1. The graphics are insane. The demo was apparently 'locked' on Medium, even if you kicked the sliders up to High. Last night, I turned the sliders all the way up.....WOW.

2. The sound is also terrific. When there's a large explosion, the percussion and depth of sound is great. "Bullets zinging by", the screams for ammo/medic/spots are far beyond any FPS I've played before and really add to the experience.

3. The game seems really well balanced, especially for a new launch. Tanks/Bradleys/APCs are obviously tough, but even with a quality engineer fixing them, they don't last forever. Every individual kit is capable of taking the fight to the enemy with quality weapons.....no kit is way better/worse than another, they can all compete.

4. The (5) maps are all solid and very playable. Unlike most FPS games that wind up focusing on 2 or 3 "Favorite" maps, I think you'll see heavy rotation on all of these maps for quite a while.

5. The destructive environment adds really is as great as the hype. There were several times last night where my team/squad had to focus on clearing trees/fences/buildings in order to launch a quality assault, else, the enemy just sits in hiding and picks you off. It's amazing to me that the map you start out with is unrecognizable from the map you end with.

Couple of minor complaints:

1. I found it weird that no class started with their special tools. No Med Kit/Defibs for the medic, no Ammo pack for assault, no wrench for the engineer......they're all unlocks. I managed to get them all by the end of the night, but I thought it was silly playing a medic that couldn't heal/revive anyone.

2. While it was the best opening day launch I've seen in a while (possibly ever), the EA Servers left a bit to be desired. Even after entering some special unlock keys (pre-order perks), only 1 of the 5 items showed up. Meanwhile some people started with all the weapon/kit unlocks for every class for no apparent reason. I'm assuming it's a server-stat issue, but it was a little annoying to getting killed shot by a level-1 private using a level-bazillion gun.

Overall, if you can run the game - go buy it. It was/is fantastic!

Bought it on Steam last night and when I couldn't sleep at 3:30 this morning - I started playing the Single Player game.......just amazing.

It times perfectly with the purchase of my new monster computer, so having every setting on high and running it at a crazy resolution is something I've never experienced before in a game.

I've got a decent machine but I'm dying to upgrade so I can run everything on high.

Yeah my 8800GT video card is struggling along at 1680x1050, let alone 1920x1200 of my monitor.. doing a pretty good job of it though.

Might be time soon, just waiting for the new nvidia stuff to drop to see if it changes prices at all.

This game needs to be played with the War Tapes audio option, the sound is unreal.

I've got an 8800GT running at 1920x1200 I turned everything down to medium so I don't get brutal fps when it gets crazy.

Is everyone playing this on the PC? I wanted to try the demo on the 360 but all weekend I couldn't connect to the EA servers and then they just pulled the demo. It might have been a timed demo or something.

I've been looking for a game like Call of Duty for multiplayer but am afraid to get into a game like that because I'm not very good. To me this game sounds exactly like that but with vehicles. Is this the case? Actually, I played Unreal Tournament 2003 a fair amount before and my favorite mode used to be Onslaught which sounds very similar to this game (on foot and vehicle combat).

BC2 sounds like it might be better for you then, it sounds like it's dependent on teamwork and tactics as well as skills, moreso than MW2.
