Doctor Girl though said that "It Worked" to the Asian dude who can talk to the dead.
This means to me that both Timelines are real and co-existing one with the plane crash and one without it. My latest suspicion is that the no plane crash timeline will end with the losties still being drawn by Jacob to the Island. It will all be part of the you can't escape fate plots.
When they get to the island somehow the two timelines will merge back together and somehow that will relate to Jacobs victory over smokey.
In the end we will not be satisfied by the ending because stories that are so built up with so much symbology rarely end well. Can anyone name any Conspiricy style show that ended well? Alias and X-files were not satisfying so my expectations for Lost are very low but I hope they surprise me.

Great episode on right now! Haven't seen a fight scene like that in awhile. Really well done... Dogen has become one of my favorite characters.

That was an insanely good episode.
Sayid is now fully infected, just like Claire.

Hated that episode -- seems to be turning a great character show into a good guys vs. bad guys royal rumble.
I didn't invest 5+ seasons watching Sayid struggle to attone to himself only to have him do a presto chango morph into an unrepentant killer just to fit on one team for the Final Battle

I don't know how you could dislike that episode.
The point with Sayid all along was he COULDN'T redeem himself. Even in the alternate timeline he stated he's struggled for 12 years and he just can't overcome it. He's ALWAYS been a killer.
The evil in Sayid won. It's not a happy ending, and I like that.

I know in my head that the producers/writers of Lost would be able to come up with a better ending than the one I fear ... but I'm really starting to worry that, between the 'it worked' and their knack for throwing a curveball ... that the alterna-Lost is going to end up being the "reality". That would REALLY suck.

Yeah, that would suck. I still don't like the alternate reality.

They have gotten better every week though. It was a great episode. I knew all along that Sayid could not redeem himself and would eventually turn to full evil.
I like Claire storyline. Way back in season 1, when she went to see the psychic and she told her that she is not to give up Aaron, everyone assumed he would become evil but it was in fact her that did.

This was the first episode where I did actually like it, yeah.
I really like the ending for Sayid. Of course, it's still not over, but not every one can have a happy ending. Seeing Sayid finally and totally give in to the "dark side" was great.
I also thought the ending for this episode was fantastic, too. Smokey sailing over Kate and Claire in the pit was a great scene, and the very ending with the music was one of the best I've seen Lost do, IMO. It was super creepy seeing Locke walking away leading his followers.

The show, especially starting season 2 has been about good vs. evil/bad, the losties and the others (previously assumed evil people), white/black. I think the concept of good and bad wasn't just portrayed through man vs. man, but man vs. self.
Starting from season 1 up till now, we have been learning about the characters through their flashbacks, and their lives on and off the island. Like Sayid they were/are all struggling with the good and bad within themselves.
I think it was one of the best episodes. As much as I feel upset about losing the real "Sayid," I think the new Sayid is going to be amazing, even better!

Kate left with Locke, Sayid and Claire.. Is she going to fall for what Locke has in mind? She seemed completely confused.
The part where she picked up the rifle/gun from the dead guy's body, reminded me of the first season when she was taking off the shoe from a dead person's body near the plane. I think it was a little creepy. Everyone heads towards Locke, Kate heads for the gun..
Oh and I wonder if Claire is going to attack Kate, now that she knows that Kate had her baby.

The seemingly super quick switch from tormented Sayid to "Ok, I'm evil now" Sayid was kind of lame, but I believe they've got some good stuff coming for this season. Next week: Benjamin episode! Woo! Just keep the damn Kate episodes to a minimum, god those are the worst.

I don't like it for the reason I said -- for the better part of 5 seasons Lost was about the characters, who were nuanced and multi-faceted, but now it seems like the characters are being minimized or dumbed down into pawns to line up on either side of the good Jacob vs. evil Smokey battle royal.
Yes, Sayid's always been a killer but he has never been evil. He's been willing to kill when necessary, but wantonly knifing the hippie 2nd in command was completely outside anything the character had been capable of before. But because Smokey needs so many on his side, he's turned into a caricature of who Sayid was for 5+ seasons.
"Locke" is less interesting because he's no longer wobbling between faith and doubt -- he's now a one track record whose only source of interest is that he knows a secret.
The rest of the characters just pop in and out, to be used to drive the Jacob vs. Smokey story along. To reiterate, they've stopped being anything but pawns.

Well, the Sayid we knew past seasons is dead. Dogen talked about the disease about two episodes ago or so, that Sayid is infected with what Claire is infected with. It wasn't really a super quick switch, unless about that particular scene where he goes out to kill Locke and comes back to kill Dogen, but then again it depends on how long it takes ones to get "infected".
And, I don't think this resurrected Sayid has control over choosing between good and evil (again, because he is infected).

Can't say I agree. There are 10 episodes left in the show. Character arcs are coming to a conclusion, and who's to say there aren't a few more surprises in store for a character like Sayid?
Besides that, why isn't a killer evil? He tortured and killed people. That's something a bad person does. He struggled for 5 seasons with that good and bad side of himself. Even his alternate reality, where, I feel, it's showing what their lives would be like if Jacob hadn't have come to them, still shows him as a killer. He killed Keamy when he didn't have to. He gave in to Ben and became his hit-man.
Sayid, to me, is probably one of the most evil characters on the show, whether he is conflicted about it or not.
As for Locke, he's dead. The Smoke Monster is an entirely different character altogether; one, at least in my opinion, that is extremely interesting. I still miss the real Locke, but his death and set-up feeling of being "special" makes him one of the most tragic characters I've ever seen on television.
Edit: I do want to add that it is becoming quite clear that they are a bunch of pawns in the larger game. I haven't particularly minded it yet, though.

I think the rapid change from Sayid trying to stab Locke to him killing those 2 guys in the temple has to do with what Locke explained to Sayid. My theory is that he explained that his ultimate goal is to set things "right", which is to cause a correction so that none of the events on the island ever took place (the alternative universe flashes we are seeing). This would mean that killing Dogen in the temple is in effect helped Dogen return to his previous life where he was at his son's piano recital. I think hearing Dogen's story of what he gave up (returning his son's life to come to the island do Jacob's bidding) helped push Sayid in the direction of trying to help Locke set things "right".

I'm a bit worried it's going down the "I'm the Devil, I'll fulfill your wildest dreams" road with smokey (non-Locke) and a soon to be resurrected Jeebus (Jacob) road. Time will tell, I hope that isn't what they go for though.
