Ah, good question - can't remember - it was thick, the multi-coloured variety.

So, it was carpet underlay? I've only seen the thin foam-type underlay for laminate. Carpet underlay is quite a bit thicker, and would provide better insulating properties. Is the floor "squishy" when you walk on it, or does it depress where a heavy piece of furniture sits?

Yeah, there is some give to it. I don't do anything in my basement except run on the treadmill, so I have to go home and actually check what's going on down there.
