In the middle of the ocean? I thought tsunami's didn't raise up until near land or shallower waters.

I believe the buoys measure the water pressure/height and computers tell them how high the tsunami wave should be at landfall for the specific area.

Wow...one of my bosses was taking a flight this morning at 7:30 AM to go to Hawaii. I would imagine that flight was cancelled huh?

HOOT, biggest wave is expected to be about 2 ft tall at Tofino, should hit around 3:00 PT.

I'd imagine so. The Honolulu airport is not on high ground. Hopefully it survives because if no one can get on or off the island that would be catastrophic.

Maybe they'll just delay all flights until they see what happens.

2 feet? Aren't regular waves at Tofino bigger than 2 feet?

OMGGGGGGGGG Run for the hills Victoria residents!

I figured it would be tough for the wave to get around that 'bend' but wasn't sure and the news just kept saying "BC would be effected" I just wasn't sure how badly.

I'm just reading what came in on our wire -- "half a metre."

Watching the live stream from Hawaii right now.
