Thanks a lot for your response. I'm just starting to workout again and I was deluded in believing that I could just start where I left off 3 years ago ( I used to train really hard). However now I find myself winded and absolutely fatigued
i want to start p90x- however I don't believe I could handle it and I want to use 10 minute trainer as a bridge

Do p90 as the bridge. That's what I did.

I did p90X for 3 days and it kicked my ass. I quit and just started playing hockey a couple nights a week and following Lose It on my ipod and I am down 15lbs so far since Jan 8th.
Lose It really works!

basic calorie tracker. works with anybody.
just enter your stats (age, sex, height, weight, etc), how much you want to lose. it will tell you how many calories you need per day to lose that weight.
enter the food you eat and exercise to see how many calories you consume/burn.
it works well, but like any diet/workout...you need to stick with it to see results.

Speaking of plateaus, I just got booted in the ass by one today. I've been doing squats and increasing my weights by about 5% each workout for about the last 6 weeks. I went on vacation two weeks ago and just got back to the gym this week.
Monday was great, so I increased my weight on Wednesday but finished maxed out one rep short. Then today I get 4/5 through my second set and lose it completely. I'm looking in the mirror as I'm trying to push up and see one of the trainers start sprinting over, but he didn't make it in time. I knew I was going down, so I just launched the weights backwards off my shoulders and then went to the ground. Cut up my hand pretty good, but it could've been a lot worse.

You don't use a power rack or squat rack with rails you could dump the weight on?

You don't use a power rack with safety spotters?
Either way, I've done what you did before too. Had to push a bench press bar off once too.

Yes, I do. I dropped the weights onto the rails. It still scared the crap out of me.

I've done a faceplant a couple of times in that situation. More embarrassed than scared. I'm always a little worried about a similar situation with bench press though.

Yeah, unless you're lucky enough to bench in your power rack with the same safety spotters just set down farther.

So I'm thinking about starting this. I've been working out for a couple years, but not progressing as much as I'd like. Although I'm in relatively decent shape, I'm a classic hard gainer body type, so I definitely need to work harder than most. Now that I'm older I can get a beer gut quickly, but I can lose it pretty fast also. Any hard gainers here try this out ? How well did it work? Is this geared more for people wanting to lose weight and get fit, rather than the hard gainer?

Starting up again in mid April after some vacation time. Look forward to it, it's a great set of exercise programs but for putting on weight it won't help. It's more about leaning muscle, you could perhaps push higher dumbbell weights for some exercises but that's it. I am thinking of getting 40 or 50's for the plyo to help build my legs.

Starting a new round today. Just got back from a week in Mexico and needing the challenge. I will post every once and a while, perhaps to keep me motivated. Today is day one, Chest and Back.
Will be using:
- Chin up tower
- Power blocks 0 -50lbs
- Push up bars
I think that is all today.
I won't be doing the Kenpo because I find the work out not hard enough. Will substitute with 10 mile runs or so. Running the police half marathon in April so I need to keep running some what. May even substitute it for plyo every second week or so.

I've been doing the ab ripper x and chest + triceps + shoulders, alternating every other day for a month.....p90x is the real deal.
The first time I tried ab ripper x I walked bowlegged because my hip flexors hurt so bad for about 3 days.

Starting second go-round today - first time I did the program I lost 40 pounds and have been doing a maintenance program for the last couple of months which has kept my weight at what it was at the end of the first cycle. Hoping to lose about 15 pounds this time round
