So I hooked up an external hard drive to my Bell receiver. I saw my buddy record live tv while he watched another show.

Mine will not allow me to do this. Every time I record it makes me watch the show and I am unable to watch something else. When I try and change channels I get: "To switch you will have to cancel current recording".

Is this normal? Can this be fixed?

Is it possible for me to watch one thing while recording something else?

Sounds like you have a single tuner and not dual. google the model of your pvr and see if that is it

What model do you have?

If it is a 9242 hit 'Menu' - 6 - 2 and make sure it is on "Disable View".

Yes. A new receiver.

You have a single tuner, you need a dual tuner to do the things you want. The external HD has nothing to do with it.

or buy another 6131 and change inputs on your TV.
