Kipper seems to struggle in the day time games, perhaps that had something to do with it?

Noticed the Americans changed goalies mid-way through the third... did Miller get injured or did they just pull him so he DIDN'T get injured?

Maybe they wanted to make Tim Thomas feel useful.

The announcers said they were just giving him a rest. Not sure though.

Well that is not how you initially stated the question. Obviously we have not advanced past the first round of the playoffs since the lockout so big games that he has won probably won't meet your credentials since you are clearly trying to say he has not won anything big since the lockout. He did have a vezina season with 10 shutouts in 06 you probably have several big games there?
With 4 straight seasons averaging over 40 wins (39 in 07/08) he has been a top goalie in the game. He is a workhorse who plays as many games as you let him. He has a HART nominee, a Vezina to his name and took a team all the way to game 7 of the SCF. Not once did he cost us a game in that series. Only in the Keenan years did he play poorly in the playoffs (and not even that poorly). He and Luongo had very similar numbers vs Chicago last year. The guy is still a top 3 (I think #1) goalie in the league. He has acomplished quite a bit considering his career basically didn't get rolling until 2003/2004.

Great dominance by the USA today. Hopefully Canada will do equally as well to meet them in the finals.

I never asked the question, just trying to play Devil's advocate for some interesting discussion.

I wouldn't put much thought into Kipper's performance.
Sometimes the puck simply goes in for a team.
Sure he didn't play good, but ramdomness has as much to do with a supposed "horrible" performance as anything else.

Well I did not expect a 6-1 final. But I fully expected an American win.

Hope this game doesn't weigh on Kipper. He's been lights out so far this year.
Hopefully they take the bronze. I guess an added plus is we don't have to play him.

I have to say he looked absolutely crushed on the bench, but I doubt it will mean anything when he gets back to Calgary. If I had to guess, he might not even dress for the bronze game, because they have to go with Bäckström now.
Neutral zone, defense, goaltending, they just all crumbled like a row of dominoes for Finland. They weren't even putting pucks into the US zone, but just kept feeding them with turnovers in the neutral zone. I had no idea it was even possible to be embarrassed worse than the Russian were.
The positive side is that USA versus Canada is clearly the right final for the games. Two best teams by far.

I just got back from the game, and this is exactly how I saw it. Niklas Bäckström will probably start tomorrow, so Kipper cannot even redeem himself in the eyes of his countrymen. I don't normally see Miikka Kiprusoff "crushed," but when I looked at him sitting on the bench you could tell he actually felt this one. It was brutal to be there. I was wearing my Suomi Kiprusoff jersey, sitting by a few Americans, and the jabs got pretty excruciatingly bad. What a way to spend $425.00

I expect a Canada/USA gold medal game. I know there's one more game to be played, but I would be shocked if Canada didn't win tonight. I'm also thrilled that after the past five days of hockey fans emailing, calling and texting NBC executives all the way up to Dick Ebersol, the gold medal game will now be broadcast live in every time zone. It should be a great game. I can't wait.

You probably mentioned it earlier but I don't know for sure. Are you going for Canada or the US?

I'm American so 100% Team USA. If USA didn't make it to the gold medal game, I would've been rooting for Canada.
I'm definitely 100% for Canada tonight! Tomorrow, that ends.

Maybe this is a good thing for the Flames as Kipper will take this and learn from it moving forward.
