Ok, now I'm in no way a Finnish expert (read: don't really know it at all pretty much), but the way Kiira Korpi speaks sounds different from any other Finnish I've ever heard. I always hear it like the guy talks, but she sounds like she has a wierd accent. Am I going crazy here? Any Finns on this board maybe wanna shed some like on why she sounds so different?

Kiira speaks regular Finnish. No weird accent. Could be just her voice, or maybe what you're used to hearing is the sports broadcasters, who don't speak like normal people.

That must be it, I guess it would be like comparing BBC hosts to the regular British public.

There is quite a difference between how people talk in everyday life and how someone whose job requires him to speak carefully speaks on television. The rhythm is stiffer, different words are used, the words are pronounced longer and clearer, and so on; and on top of that, sports broadcasters especially often tend to speak in a harsh manner, perhaps to suggest some half-forgotten manly virtues that are associated with sports.
In the above interview, she's still clearly more formal than regular speech but more natural than the interviewer. That might be the difference you hear.
And 11th place was a fine result for her. I think she's a swell skater. Fourth in Europe if you count the two Russians ahead of her as Europeans.
She was tearing up at the end, I just want to give her a hug.
Bokko still does it for me. Where are the attractive young brunettes - damn blondes.

I get the feeling that Korpi is figureskating's version of Kournikova.
The major difference, of course, is that Kiira is actually hot.
The big difference is that Kournikova was/is a huge global star and a multi-millionaire, while Korpi is a student and apart from her home country, famous mostly in boys' club threads like these.

They said on the broadcast she has the most endorsements out of any athlete in Finland. More than any Kipper!

I would love to see a commercial with Kiprusoff in it. It makes me laugh just thinking about how awkward it would be.

Maybe that could be true, if you're talking about athletes based in Finland and not Finnish athletes, but there's a difference between being the face of a yoghurt brand in Finland and an Adidas endorsement deal in USA.

No Rod Black said it was for any Finnish athlete.
I've never seen Selanne, Kipper or Koivu in any advertising here in north america.

Well then, have you seen any Kiira Korpi advertising in NA? Is Finnish yoghurt a big deal over there?
Far be it from me to go against Rod Black, whoever that is, and I honestly don't know about these things, but it stands to reason that when Kimi Räikkönen, for example, made 45 million dollars last year, however much of that is from endorsements, it's more than Korpi will earn in her life.
