Have you ever seen a team out on the ice with beer cans and cigars after winning the Stanley Cup, an achievement far greater than essentially winning a one game tournament?

They look like a bunch of rubes and hayseeds in those photos. You win gold and celebrate like you're from a trailer park but I guess whatever turns you on.

I just wish they actually had to beat more than 1 team in this tournament to make it a real accomplishment. Women's hockey..I can take it or leave it.

They have been away from families living together in this city for a year, and have played a grueling schedule leading up to the Olympics. This celebration is not just for the win of the gold medal, but a celebration of a fantastic season.
No, it would still look stupid.

Women's hockey is a joke, and actions like this only go to further that point. If you want to look like trailer thrash, do it on your own time. Don't make our country look like an ass (this type of celebration is exactly what most of the people on here complain the Americans are all about. An in your face, FU to the rest of the world). It's not like winning is even much of an accomplishment. Two teams playing an entire tournament only to play a game against each other that everyone knows is going to happen is not a sport.

What John Montgomery did was spur of the moment, and nowhere near an Olympic sporting venue. This "celebration" was clearly planned. The girls didn't just get handed beer from the crowd, they went back into the lockeroom and felt the need to bring it on to the ice (or have someone bring it to them).

As you can probably tell from my opening statement, i'm no fan of woman's hockey. That's just my opinion though. If they want to keep it in the Olympics, fine with me. These women should have the common sense to know though that they are being watched by a eurocentric IOC. Doing anything even remotely close to crossing the line is putting their sport in even more jeoprady. I'm growing really tired of the Canadian Womens Hockey Team's act. The us against the world, our sport is being oppressed by the men, we'll do what we want attitude is really getting old.

*** I'd be just as disappointed if the men did if they won.

Why do they even celebrate anymore? No one cares abouy this sport but Canada.

How is it still around? The competition level is a joke.

As opposed to the Stanley Cup winning game which some players have been waiting and hoping to play... for thirty some years?

I wouldn't care at all about this celebration if they actually achieved something. Being the best at something only you do is not an achievement.

They dont make exorbitant salaries, win or lose, they train every bit as hard and have had the same aspirations as any of the men.

not sure what your point is actually.

They should have done this celebration when they made the score 14-0 against the Slovaks.

What?

Did they beat a team of apparitions or something last night? Remember this club lost to the USA the last two world championships.

I cant believe how many want to discredit a great accomplishment...just because they are the best at what they do.

Just have the preliminaries before the Olympics, then have a bronze medal game for the Swedes and Finns, and a 7-game series between US and Canada. At least that way you'd have 8 competitive, if utterly unwatchable, games...

Another reason the IOC is upset is because a few of the girls are underage in BC, hence they shouldn't be parading around on the ice smoking and drinking. As alot of others have said...save it for the locker room...this is pretty tacky

They get a chance at their goal every four years and it isn't exactly the grueling accomplishment that winning the Stanley Cup is.

Winning the Stanley Cup is a greater cause for a celebration than winning the women's Gold and yet the Cup winning teams don't celebrate in such a tacky manner.

But then you wouldn't get Sweden beating the US in the 2006 semifinal.
I know it's painful but that possiblity has to exist.

The Russian girls will improve too.

Don't be so snobish.
You just stereo typed both farmers "hayseeds" and lower income "trailer park" inhabitants. You then top it off with an insinuation that this behavior is somehow linked to base sexual urges with "whatever turns you on."

Yes they represented Canada, and did very well too. GOLD.
I for one (among many) think there is nothing wrong with celebrating.
If anyone, blame their coaches for not moving it elsewhere, out of easily offended eyes.
