If Current Trends Continue
There's good reason for the Toronto Maple Leafs to hope for a playoff spot.
If the current 'Last 10 Games' trend continues for the last ~20 games of the season, the Leafs would be in. According to my calculations, the potential points are as follows:
PO - TEAM - CURRENT PACE - POTENTIAL POINTS
1. MTL 6-4-0 (118)
2. ATL 9-1-0 (116)
3. NYR 7-3-0 (110)
4. WAS 8-2-0 (108)
5. OTT 7-3-0 (105)
6. BUF 4-4-2 (101)
7. PHI 5-5-0 (95)
8. TOR 8-2-0 (90)
---
9. PIT 4-5-1 (90)
10. CAR 3-6-1 (85)
11. TB 5-3-2 (80)
I have put the Leafs ahead of the Penguins, due to the Leafs potential 44 wins vs. the Pens 41.
The Leafs have 21 more games to go, compaired to the Pens, and Canes 15.
Now, I know it could be wishfull thinking, due to the Leafs being on an crazy 11 of their last 13 run, and Goffie's team being on an unlikely 5-5-0 streak. Things could change, but there's still hope in Leaf land.
There's still a chance, that's all I'm saying.
EDIT: Added current pace, as the numbers are based on those.

Damn, if the pre-season favorite Penguins get knocked out of a playoff spot... that should be interesting.

The last SIM had an 86 game season. Is this SIM the standard 82 game season?

I doubt it. We'd have to go on a huge run to do so. Realistically the #2 seed is what we are aiming for in the conference.

Just a little while ago the South East Division was piss poor and we were in a 3 team race for the Division seed with the second place team hoping to lock into the 8th playoff spot. The Capitals and Thrashers responded perfectly and hit full throttle while the Hurricanes went reverse.
Poor assessment by fixing my "on paper" ahl defence and strengthening it, added with injuries and putting too much of a role on players not accustom to key minutes have really neutered this team.
I just didn't see the point of selling out too much future for a late seed and early exit I'll be curious knowing what results the sim kicked out would I have still acquired Komisarek and Regehr.
I've said it before and will say it again, sitting 6-11 is some of the funnest places to be sitting game wise

The Leafs are on a solid run, but IMO it is too little too late.
After today we have 18 games left. If we struggled and only won 8 of those games we would still have 95 points. The Leafs would have to win 20 out of 24 games to gain the same amount of points. NOT HAPPENING!!
Not saying that I am a shoe in for the playoffs, but I would be shocked if it was the Leafs who caught me.

0-2 since posting this thread. IF current trends continued, but it looks like they won't.
