What?

People have talked about missing pieces and sub par play by the Flames all season.

What is untrue about what I said?

The Americans needed 3 lucky bounces to beat Canada, along with the officials putting the whistle away for them to beat Canada.

Today, they scored on a PP, created by a Kessel dive, off a crazy bounce in the crease. Then benefited by the no call on a late trip.

I believe Canada had to hang on to beat the Swiss in a shootout. Sometimes, you have to give the opposition some credit. Those guys know how to play the game, too.

Isn't it pretty much a given that in a 6-7 game hockey tournament, half of which is single elimination games, the winning team will be the one with the best goaltending and the most luck?

I don't understand why some of you people even bother to watch hockey...as it's always either officiating, puck-luck, or a hot goal tender that determines the result. Maybe you would be happier watching a coin toss contest or number guessing game at the carnival. Last I checked, every team chooses the players that they feel provides the best opportunity to win...as a team...a hot (or not) goalie being part of that decision. It's kind of pathetic hearing some people make excuses about running into a hot goalie when their team/s has Brodeur/Luongo or Kipper...no sympathy here.

Why are Canadians so anti-American? It honestly baffles me because the feeling isn't mutual. I just don't understand it. I read the hate for Team USA, and really all American athletes on this board. I'm watching the US/Swiss game right now and you can't tell me that many Canadians are fans of the Swiss, they're just rooting against Americans. Not just in hockey, but in every sport. There seems to be no focus whatsoever on rooting for a winner, just rooting against Americans. As an American, I'm frustrated. I considered not coming to this site during the Olympics because of the amount of negativity I expected to be directed to my country, the athletes from my country and the constant name calling toward Americans (which includes me). I think its a shame, honestly. The regular insults thrown toward Americans regularly was already mildly offensive. I find it a bit hypocritical for the same posters who constantly call Americans arrogant are so smug about how much better Canadians are because they're nice, while at the same time badmouthing the people of an entire country.
Obviously there are exceptions and perhaps the negativity about Americans is just being posted more frequently. Of all my local Canadian friends, I can't think of a single one who views America, or Americans, as negatively as some of people on this message board. If anything, the fact that the Americans want our hockey team to beat Canada so badly is a compliment. Do you think we don't know who the favorite is. Funny thing about my American hockey friends, when/if the US gets eliminated, we root for CANADA! Its a real shame Canadians can't embrace us the same way. I honestly believe we are more alike than different.

Sorry for the soapbox. I really am curious about the hatred and would like to know where it comes from, hopefully without more name calling.

I have nothing against Americans personally, I spend much of my summer in New Orleans and may even move there someday. I do cheer against the U.S. hockey team but only because they are a real threat to win the gold. If Canada goes out then I cheer for Slovakia because of heritage.

personally if Canada doesn't win the gold, i hope it goes to the US. aside from the positive things it would do for hockey south of the border, it would be a great story for Brian Burke personally. and with them riding such a hot goaltender and getting timely goals when they need them, they do have an air of the Miracle on Ice team about them. it would also be very hypocritical of me to hate Americans since my dad was born there and his entire side of the family are all still there

that's why i'm really hoping for a Canada/USA final, that would be epic

A lot of it seems to be more to do with the rivalry than just being outright hate. That is one trait I've never really liked about certain canadiens, the bashing of Americans while explaining how we're really polite and nice and that's why we're better.

I have a buddy like that, and I cringe everytime he explains how we're better than Americans because we're polite, modest and humble, while at the same time boasting baout how Americans are a bunch of ignorant a-holes. |

It does go both ways though, living in the States I witnessed plenty of smug attitudes strolling around Monday morning and heard tons of shots at Canada all last week. I watched the US-Swiss game in a conference room at my office today and a few guys were hoping Canada would beat Russia, but the majority were pulling for Canada to get knocked off. This is a mixture of hockey fans and people who just jumped into the room to hit the free lunch, but generally when it comes to sports there's no love for Canada among Americans I know.

I've been to hockey message boards all over the internet, and when it comes to hockey there are US supporters who seethe just as much as the Canadians.

The feeling is definitely mutual.

Most Americans are true ######bags. That is probably the only reason. Some of them are an exception to an almost universal rule.

In terms of USA hockey only I hate the team in part because of the rivalry (although it really hasn't been much of one), in part because of the high number of ###### bags they have on their team, in part of the obnoxious annoying fans and finally, in part because of the fact that they seem to always be over hyped.

I don't hate Americans in other sports unless they act like jackasses, but that is the same with athletes of any country.
