Anyways, the SEA update: OC Bates says Hasslebeck is embracing (he has no choice if he wants to keep his job, its execution that's Hasslebeck's challenge) the new West Coast offense (Bates says it will be very similar to Denver's).
Branch talking about liking Seattle, but also making it known that he'd go back to NE too.
Mock draft - Kiper says SEA should be looking at Bradford.
Tomlinson - wouldn't mind that kind of leader on SEA. They want to re-focus on the run and if they can have a two headed monster at RB, that may be best. I think obviosuly he'd have a lot more fire then the token E. James signing last year.
In this coming draft I think if a team wants to move up and draft Sam Bradford there are two spots they need to look at, number 3 with Tampa, or the 5 spot that KC holds.
I can't see the Rams being willing to gamble on Bradford given some of the draft issues they've had. They'll go with a more secure bet in Suh or McCoy. The Lions and Bucs both drafted QB's in the first round last year so neither one of them is in the market for one this year. I think Tampa would be willing to move down and they are right in front of Washington.
The Red Skins are the first team who will seriously consider Bradford. With a new regime who have pretty long pricey contracts they may be willing to be patient and let a QB develop. They do need help on the offensive line too. But you can pick Lineman in the 2nd and 3rd round, plug them in next year and let Jason Campbell take a licking until you're ready to put your new franchise QB into play.
Should he get past the Red Skins than KC is a team who should be interested in moving down. So if you want to get in front of Seattle this is your last chance.
If Seattle comes to the board and Bradford is still there I think they should go for him. Hasselback isn't getting any younger and with 3 of the top 40 picks you still have a chance to pick two players who could help you enough right now to compete for your Division as well as a future cornerstone QB. By having that 2nd first round pick at position 14 you are playing with the house's money.

I just hope the Broncs hold out a year for Locker. I'm becoming a bigger fan day after day. I think he's a McDaniels kind of guy, uber team oriented etc.
And Shanahan drafting Bradford higher than his bum shoulder would suggest doesn't surprise me at all.

The bum shoulder thing....ask the Dolphins how that worked out for them passing on Drew Brees.
Letting Brees go was the worst decision the Chargers ever made. Bradford isn't in the same league for arm strength and accuracy as he is though. I like the kid, but I see Bradford as another Pennington clone in the pros.
Brees had already went through the trials of a new QB and showed he could win before he hurt his shoulder. The unknown wasn't if he could be a good QB but if his shoulder would recover.
I disagreed with the Chargers letting him go, but Rivers has turned out pretty good.
But with Bradford you aren't sure how he will adapt to the NFL along with the shoulder issues.

I could have swore that the NFL Network's Jason La Canfora tweeted that there were rumours that the Lions would be willing to trade down.

They might be, but given that Tampa also would trade down and neither one of those teams is going to draft a QB it makes more sense for a team to trade for Tampas pick since the #3 slot will cost less to sign than the 2 slot will. Unless Detroit wants to get into a bidding war with Tampa as to who will take less to move down in the draft. It's not too likely that a team will trade up that high and not take a QB.

I think the Lions have shown that they are more than happy to win a contest in who can get less.
Since it looks like they will take a DT I have no problem with the LIOns trading down.
They have so many holes and Suh or Mccoy aren't going to make them much better at all so better to get a few guys that can help you out than overpay for someone who may make a difference on 40% of your defensive plays.

More than one team may be looking to trade up though.
I don't think the quarterbacks are highly regarded enough to have that many teams wanting to trade up into the top 5 slots. This draft supposedly has pretty good depth because a lot of underclassmen left school anticipating that there will be a rookie wage scale after this CBA expires. The teams who are in the top 5 all have multiple needs and would love to move down and collect extra picks, but I don't think there are enough teams behind that really looking to move up.

Pat Kirwan's 10 things to watch in the combine. Kirwan is a former GM with the Jets (apparently he could have had the Seattle GM job if he wanted it as him and Pete Carroll have a long relationship) and coached at Hofstra. He currently hosts Sirius' moving the Chains show during the afternoon and still does work for nfl.com and CBS.
I will be in Lucas Oil Stadium Friday through Sunday with my Sirius NFL radio show, interviewing many of the draft-eligible players. I interviewed close to 1,000 players in my years as a team personnel executive, and I will try to drill down with each and every player to see if they love football and have a knowledge of the game. There isn't much worse than a dumb player that doesn't have great passion for the game. One year, I asked a potential first-round player what he would do with his first paycheck. He said he was going to buy a gold sports car. He couldn't wait to live the life of a star. Problem was, he never became a star. Instead of hitting a big second contract, he is now out of football.
Sounds like my boy Jamarcus!

It sucks that the Combine is on during the Olympics. Usually all I care about right now is the Combine. But there is some other huge sporting even going on today. Hard to get interested in the Gauntlet.

I was reading about how the NT position is probably the next hardest position to fill in the NFL. Evidence of that is being demonstated in the use of the franchise tag on NT's right now. Other than Frankin, Ryan Pickett (Packers), Vince Wilfork (Patriots), and Casey Hampton (Steelers) have been tagged or are expected to be tagged.
