I too hate McIvor. I think he's great at nay saying and voting no and objecting. Rarely have I ever heard him actually bring an idea to the table.
Apart from (very recently) his desire to increase the bike speed in certain areas.
This is the only time I can remember his input being more than a giant stick in the mud.

I've been critical of him in the past, but I think I can now say that his time as mayor was very good for the City of Calgary. He too care of alot of things that desperately needed doing (FFS, how much longer was Glenmore and Elbow going to be an intersection with Duerr in control?), and he never was afraid of making unpopular decisions.
I like the quotes in the linked article, and I couldn't agree more that the last thing we need is a guy like McIvor making Duerr look like a dynamic visionary.
A city is not just a bunch of houses and roads. I hope our next mayor knows that. Bronco did, but he really focused on houses and roads. Maybe the next few years should see a bit of focus on rec type stuff. I propose and zip line from the top of the Bow, to the top of the Center Street Bridge.

Well I suppose that the word culture in the official definition sense implies that no place with people can actually be devoid of 'culture'. Just that said culture may lack a diversity of experiences. I think that is what people who complain about Calgary's cultural aspects like to point to. It stems from a frustration that Calgary is not a big enough place or doesn't do enough on a civic level to stimulate cultural experiences that escape the mainstream lowest common denominator experience.

Duerr lives right there (Britannia), and his buddies didn't want the "hassle" of construction. Nice eh? Amazing considering that there were plans for an interchange there since the 1940s.

What's the mainstream LCD experience? (again, serious question).

Regarding this lack of culture, there are a few projects underway to improve the music culture.
First, the King Eddy is going to be restored and Cantos is building the National Music Centre across the street.
Also the Calgary Folk Music Festival is in the works to build a 180-220 seat concert hall in Inglewood with offices for staff. The hall will be located here: http://maps.google.com/maps?f=q&sour...67.44,,0,13.97
Here's a link to the Folk Festival Hall website: http://www.calgaryfolkfest.com/users...?FolderID=5173
Here's the Cantos project's website:
http://cantos.ca/kingeddy/
Would anyone here donate to these projects? Would anyone go to the concerts when built?

Indeed, all good projects. I donated to the Cantos at King Eddy project.
Calgary Arts Development is executing a great plan to get a lot of this infrastructure built. http://calgaryartsdevelopment.com/
I think your figure on the Inglewood hall is a bit high. I believe it's supposed to be around $5 million
Another interesting project should be the Epcor Centre expansion. Big project coming down the pipeline.

He's also half-fish. The Starkist lobby are all over him.

Whom do you suggest? How many people vote in a municipal election? 5,000? This is truly winnable with a good CP effort...

Always joking, joker. I actually think we can install a CP mayor with some grass-roots effort.

That's what I was thinking; he has a good gig going with the Flames.

If I was elected I would hire two of you guys to follow me around wearing
Plus I'd hire one of you to dress up like this to collect funds from the province
Meet the new City of Calgary Police Uniforms
We'd rake in billions in tourist dollars.
