Why do they officially call it women's hockey, women's curling, women's biathalon, women's bobsleigh, women's skeleton, and women's luge, but call other events ladies' speedskating, ladies' figure skating, ladies' alpine skiing, ladies' snowboard, ladies' cross country skiing etc. Is any sport that involves extra equipment (sleds, guns, sticks, rocks) deemed to be less lady-like and more womanly?

Wow, I just watched Rochette skate. She did pretty well but I was more floored by the reaction after.
She cried, Moir cried, Virtue cried, her coach cried, the volunteers in the blue coats were crying. It was pretty emotional. I actually smiled and kind of laughed seeing all those people in tears.

Ladies is an old term. So anything sport that's been in the olympics a long time.. say before 1980 is ladies' and anything new is women's!
My favourite is the Women's 2-man Bobsleigh.

Vonn crashed in women's GS, and the intervals were so short that Mancuso was on course after and had to be flagged and re-start her run 10-15 places later (worse course conditions, skis not fresh) beacuse they insist on running 100 people in the olympics even though the last half are +15-30 seconds off the pace. She looks PISSED.
Couple Canadians made it to second run, good considering we do not have any legit female GS skiers on the world cup.
Dumping hard in Whistler, lucky buggers who are skiing today since I'm sure the hills are empty.

Except that a lot of relatively new sports (aerials, snowboard, freestyle, short-track) still use 'ladies'.

Yup, the Swiss would then more onto the semi-finals and the States would be SOL.

yeah BIG hockey games tonight. Win and you get 2 more games and 75% chance of getting a medal. Lose and go home with F-all.

Swiss hanging in versus the Americans so far. They've traded chances still 0-0.

The longer you let an inferior team know it has a chance, the more you energize them and the greater the chance of an upset.

Even whackadoodles like to ski and Iran has some great mountains. A first hand report from Iran.

I guess I've never really watched any of the Olympics online before but I'm loving the lack of commentators on the CTV feed. It's great just to hear the arena sounds.

Wait until this weekend, when the "Snow Leopard" from Ghana takes to the slopes in the men's slalom.

Klassen is skating right now in the 5000 m. She wins her pair and is in first but she's in the first pair so long way to go.

Unfortunately, her time won't hold up. Most of the skaters that will skate later are in the 7:10s or better
