I know that ESPN has historically overreacted to these type of things in the past but it is unfortunate that they took this stand in this situation.

Hopefully, Kornheiser comes back and doesn't change at all because he did nothing wrong in this situation.
Hey, do you hear that? It's the 1950's calling you back.

Wow.

Pretty clear cut, way-over-the line comments in any credible workplace today.

If you don't believe, go out and give it a try. Good luck with your employer-mandated remedial training, that is if you keep your job.

And he knows it:

Apparently aware that his crude cracks weren't a smart career move, Kornheiser opened the next day's broadcast of "Pardon the Interruption" by cravenly apologizing.

"I apologize, unequivocally," said the former Washington Post columnist and "Monday Night Football" analyst. "I was wrong."

"I'm a sarcastic, subversive guy," he said. "I'm a troll, look at me. I have no right to insult what anybody looks like or what anybody wears. That, I think, should go without saying."

Educated guess based on a comment in a two year old thread....that is pretty much an assumption in my books.

If my company has an employee who constantly harps on other employees to the point that it bothers the individuals enough that they don't like it and make it be known. That employee is going to face discipline action. Just because I may not take as much offence to those comments doesn't mean someone else is wrong if they do.

We don't know how the interpersonal relationships within ESPN work, and Chris Berman would look like a clown if he made fun of Kornheiser on NFL countdown as it's not within the context of his show. Whereas with PTI not having a singular objective he gets to take shots at whomever on the air. I can see why it would bother fellow employees and why they needed to take action on him.

WHO CARES?

Why is one tiny little comment such a big issue? Jesus. You'd think I called Jiri a friggin rapist or something.

I suggested that he might not watch PTI. OH THE HUMANITY!!!!

Schadenfreude; you tried to minimize Jiri's argument, you came off like a condescending a-hole and were ultimately wrong. Now people are taking pleasure in your misfortune.

This is offensive?

I'll assume you don't watch the show because I remember you locked a thread a while ago and implied you had never watched PTI. Remember?
Jesus, if that is offensive then I guess everything must be offensive to you people.

I seriously don't even know what is allowed anymore and what isn't.

And what misfortune do you speak of? That Jiri does in fact watch PTI? Oh, yes, I was just crushed to find out he watched the show. If anything I was happy because it meant that he would be able to provide an informed opinion on the show.

The only people coming off as aholes are the ones who continually need to derail a thread to point out a miniscule sentence in one post that has nothing to do with the topic at hand. Sad really.

No, Bobblehead said that you came off sounding like a condescending a-hole.

Good for him. What in the hell does that have to do with Tony Kornheiser saying offensive things?

Jiri established that I was mistaken. That was covered. Move on. Why other posters and mods are continually derailing a thread to point out my mistake is completely unnecessary.

If you want to continue to remind me that Jiri does watch PTI I think it should be taken to PMs because it has nothing to do with this thread.

IF what I said was condescending you or the other mods should have PMed me or given me an infraction. If not then move on, derailing this thread and piling on isn't helping. Especially because it has nothing to do with this topic.

condescending <> offensive

(Note: "<>" meas does not equal or is not the same as. Sometimes also shown as "!=")
(Note2: yes, I am being condescending)

You may want to watch out for mistakes like that. It undermines your position then people will bring it up repeatedly until you get frustrated.

Deadspin is suggesting that he was actually suspended for the Berman comments and not the Storm comments. Berman is a "made man" at ESPN, he is above criticism, etc.:

http://deadspin.com/5478645/kornheis...yline=true&s=i

http://deadspin.com/5478363/espns-to...t-chris-berman

Quote:
These comments were made about the 1:05 portion of Kornheiser's rant:
"I know I'm not supposed to be critical of ESPN people, like if I point out that people say that they lost 50 or 60 pounds have actually gained all the weight back..." (Co-host interrupts: "And then some. Gained the weight back, back, back, back.")
Quote:
What I've also been told, for the sake of accuracy via people whose job it is to make sure these things are accurate, is that Kornheiser's comments about Storm were not the only ones that were "being reviewed" by ESPN brass; rather, it was the "totality" of his comments that got him in trouble, meaning, that yes, the Kornheiser/Gary Braun pile-on about Berman's weight was also considered demeaning to ESPN personnel. But why was Kornheiser's punishment so severe? People who have worked closely with ESPN higher-ups throughout their career point to Norby's close relationship with Berman. Meaning, Berman's a made guy..."You're forced to apologize if you make fun of Hannah Storm. You get suspended if you make fun of Chris Berman."
