I've read around that Sony announced there would be a PS3 shortage.

i have actually had lots of friends lately switch from xbox over to ps3 because of multiple rrod's. i definitely feel like i made the right choice for this generation of consoles. glad to hear it is gaining market share, hopefully that allows more games and features to be done for ps3 instead of xbox.

I was one of them. I didn't get the RROD but I was tired of paying for Live and just waiting for the moment when my 360 decided to die.

I would be on that ship to PS3 for good if it wasn't for me renewing my Live membership for a year and then 3 days later getting RROD. I'll keep it up for the year and the next RROD I'll just give up. What irks me is the library of games I built up, trading them in will get me nothing and I haven't even played a lot of them. The 'too many good games in too little time' scenario.

The very last thing a 3rd place system needs is a shortage. It's not like they have the Wii excuse (product selling out by the boat load) to give customers. Games like Heavy Rain, God of War 3 and Final Fantasy 13 aren't going to sell the system to anybody that doesn't already have one. What the heck is going on with Sonys production line?

The things I love about my PS3 (that other consoles don't offer):
1. Full web browser (it's amazing).
2. Runs cool and quiet (2nd generation)
3. Sixaxis controllers (still the best, hands down)
4. MLB The Show
5. Built in Wireless is STANDARD. (Yes, Wii has this, I know)
6. I don't have to pay extra to use it's full potential (ie. Xbox Live)
7. No proprietary cables/addons required.
8. Blu-Ray
The only thing I was truly worried about was getting locked out of really good content (Xbox Exclusives). So far, not a problem. There are a plethora of terrific games available for PS3, including Bioshock 2, Mass Effect 2 and Assassin's Creed 2.
While I think a Sports Gamer is foolish to buy any other console, I'm starting to think that applies to Non-Sports Gamers as well now.

The only thing I am worried about it that I use my ps3 as a blu-ray player too, so I've heard they can just magically stop playing blu-rays over time...

God of War III is a pretty good reason in and of itself to choose a PS3 over Xbox.

I'm happy I chose PS3. I think everyone I know that has had an xbox has run into the infamous RROD problem at one point or another. That alone is reason enough to stay away for me.
I think the xbox live system for online gaming is about the only thing superior on xbox, but the PS3 system is still decent, and its free, so I'm willing to live with that.

I've heard that Sony was looking into make PSN have some kinda of fee. If they don't I can see them getting really into DLC.

It's not going to be in 3rd place for long. It is only 4 million units behind the 360.
Microsoft screwed themselves and HDdvd by rushing out a system with an 80% failure rate. ridiculous.

I'd be annoyed if they started charging and just left it as is, but if they charged a marginal fee (like the $5/month xbox fee) and used that to build a server infrastructure that ensured low-pings and no lag ever, I could get on board with that.

I am an Xbox owner and I've been thinking of making the switch. Problem is, used Xbox 360's are worthless. You get nothing for them on craigslist, etc because they are already cheap brand new, and people sell modded ones which dont work with live, not to mention risk of the red light problem.
I dont use xbox live and none of the xbox exclusives have ever really got me excited. Maybe because I'm older and I game less, but I think the mixture of PS3 being a blu ray player and the fact that it can still satisfy my gaming fix when I do get the urge, it seems like the system better suited to me now.
The thing I do like better about the xbox is the controller. Just feels better in the hand IMO.

Interpret this how you like......I'm not overly worried.
Quote from a Sony Big-Wig.
"...but Kaz recently went on the record as saying that's something we're looking at. I can confirm that as well. That's something that we're actively thinking about. What's the best way to approach that if we were to do that? You know, no announcements at this point in time, but it's something we're thinking about."

I'm one of those rare Xbox360 owners that is still on my original system. No issues so far, and it has been 3 years
